Another riddle?  :P Now that I finally got one plus the one on the other topic, I feel like I might get some more

CrowsFan

Ok I'll give you all a riddle...

3 guys are having an argument and decide the only way to settle it is via a duel. So the three men go outside with their guns, and decide they will take turns to fire one shot each until there is one left. Allan, who only hits his target one third of the time gets to shoot first. Barry, who only hits his target two thirds of the time gets to shoot second (assuming he did not die), whist Chris, who always hits his target will shoot third (providing he is still alive). This process will continue until just one remains.

So assuming you are Allan, where should you shoot with your first shot to give you your best odds of staying alive?

Fantasygun

I would Chris, if I miss oh well but if I kill him then Barry gets a shot which he is less likely to kill me than Chris.
If I miss Chris, Barry will shoot Chris knowing knowing that Chris won't miss and then it will then be my turn again to have another chance and hopefully kill Barry this time.

Ziplock

Chris

If you shoot barry and kill him, then you're dead when chris shoots you.

CrowsFan

Sorry that's not right

Fantasygun

Because if you shoot and kill Barry, Chris will shoot next , he shoots third if Barry is alive, if  he's not he shoots second , unless that's the trick, I wrote a paragraph as to why I would shoot Barry but I changed my mind and got rid of it

CrowsFan

I'll wait for some other responses to see if anyone else can get it. Obviously would like some reasoning behind it too, not just a random guess.

I'm pretty confident with myself...

Doesn't matter who you shoot first if you miss, so the only outcomes that matter are if you hit them. If you shoot barry first and kill him, then chris goes second and kills you. If you shoot chris first and kill him, then barry has a 2/3 chance of killing you.

mmmmm....

unless, you purposely miss both of them, but even then I dont think it'd increase your odds much better.... assuming there's a 50% that the others will choose you

that means that the probability that barry kill you before your next shot is 1/2*2/3= 1/3, probability that barry kills chris= 1/3, probability that chris survives= 2/3, probability that chris kills you if he survives before your next shot =1/3, which= 2/3 anyway.

so either you can shoot chris first or shoot neither and you'll have a 2/3 chance of dying anyway.

Ziplock

I mightn't have done that properly, since I cbf.

or, you shoot yourself and pretend your dead, then when they check your pulse you jump the mofos.

GoLions

If you miss on purpose, then Barry will go next, and will shoot at Chris, because if he doesn't the Chris will shoot him (as Barry is a better aim than Allan). If Barry misses, then Chris will shoot Barry and hit him, therefore leaving just the two of you. And if he hits, then it is obviously you and Barry. Either way, it will be your shot, and only 1 other person left who can kill you.

I think that's right, took me a while, haha.

Riddle #24

As I was going to St. Ives
I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits;
Kits, cats, sacks and wives,
How many were going to St. Ives?

CF, don't answer this straight away, hahaha :P

LF

that is the answer

I think you forgot to take into account that chris is an  idiot.

1, just the man.

I argued with my year 6 teacher on this one that there isn't enough information, hypothetically you could have simply been walking at a different pace to the man and his wives and crossed paths that way, or met at a cross road.

actually... rereading it, shouldn't the answer by 0? since it specifies 'kits, cats, sacks and wives'? but does talk about guys (unless we're assuming that the reader is a wife of someone :P )

GoLions

There's actually a number of answers.
As LF said, it could just be you that's going, and everyone else is irrelevant.
It could zero, like you said zip, due to the 2nd last line.
Could be 2, if it were just you and the man, and the man's wives weren't actually there, and he just told you all that information.

Basically, depending on your interpretation, there are about 8 or so answers.
