#18 Trent McKenzie - Gold Coast Suns

Name: Trent McKenzie
Age: 21 years, 6 months
Team: Gold Coast Suns
Position: Defender
Bye: Round 8

2013 Low: 55
2013 High: 114
2013 Average: 88.56
2013 Pre-Bye Average: 97.3
2013 Post-Bye Average: 81.6

Fanplanner Price: $474,000

Predicted average: 95-100ppg

Verdict: Trent had an interrupted pre-season which saw him eased back in the first couple of rounds in the reserves, it also explains his drop off in the last couple of games. With a full pre-season i'll find it hard not to put him in my team.

 ???
He didn't play in the first 4 rounds, did he have a full pre-season ? If he didn't that could explain the end of season fade-out.

ahh yes, pre-season was interrupted with knee tendonitis, they eased him into the reserves for the first 4 rounds, a full pre-season and I may be forced to jump on. Will update the verdict later, cheers ST,  :)

Ricochet

Teams also started to target him with a tag

Fantasygun

I jumped on him mid season this year, payed off, last few games were quiet though.

I'm risking it in 2014, could make a bigger risk

kilbluff1985

will be in and out of my team all pre season

Nice write up Specky.

Anyway this man is a lock. Was between him and Hurn for D3 and I chose Mckenzie because with a full preseason he should improve his average once again and he has plenty more upside. Will get tagged etc but will also be let off the hook.

Missed the boat last year, but won't miss out again. His fade out at the end of the year was no doubt his lack of preseason and run in the legs. 95-100ppg is very reasonable and within his sights.

Vinny you'd be over the moon about this.

JBs-Hawks

Last 5 games are why this man ISNT a lock.

Didn't have a preseason JB, came in at Round 5? Averaged 97 before the byes when he was fresh and ran out of legs by the end of the season? Don't know why he wouldn't be a lock, priced at $477k he is definitely one to have, considering he is extremely consistent and should average 95+.

He got the tag he didnt run out of steam. If im spending over 450k on a defender he wants to be a proven performer.

He got the tag?
Round 19 vs Eagles: Responsible for Hill
Round 20 vs Dees: Running off Byrnes
Round 21 vs Port: Wingard manned up on him
Round 22 vs Saints: Manned up on Milne
Round 23 vs GWS: Think he may have been running more freely here

This is going off fanfooty, so unless it's wrong, he was only really tagged (if you wanna call it that) against Port.
I'm with wato, think he ran out of steam with an interrupted pre-season, and think he'll go 95+ ppg next year.

Jroo

Doesn't need a lot of the ball to score well but I brought him in late last year and he burnt me. I'm staying away.

Likely to improve  but not starting with him. Think the prediction of 95-100 is right which will put him close to the top 8 backs, but when McVeigh, Mitchell, Hanley, Bartel are all 50-90k more, and Suckling is 150k less, cant find room to start him.

GOLD Coast defender Trent McKenzie is set to miss the next three to four weeks of pre-season training after scans revealed he suffered a high-grade right ankle sprain at training on Monday.

McKenzie joined his teammates for the Suns' first session back after the Christmas break, but was carried from Metricon Stadium not long after when he landed awkwardly on his right ankle in a spoiling attempt.

"Thankfully for Trent, scans have revealed no structural damage after he sprained his ankle at training on Monday," a Gold Coast spokesman told AFL.com.au on Tuesday.

"Trent is expected to spend 3-4 weeks on a modified training program to rehabilitate his ankle."

The 21-year-old was on track to complete his first full pre-season in four years, but the ankle injury will consign him to the club's rehabilitation group.

McKenzie enjoyed his best year to date for the Suns in 2013, averaging 19.2 disposals a game and thriving in a mop-up half back role.

Originally signed as one of Gold Coast's 17-year-old access selections, McKenzie has 57 games to his name with the Suns.

McKenzie now faces a race against time to be fit for the Suns' opening NAB Challenge game against Essendon on February 17.
