I meant popular to play obviously, I was comparing performance. Crowd doesn't score runs.

Cricket not as popular as football, tennis, equestrian, f1 or golf for attendance.

GoLions

Also does the number of people playing cricket include all the people who come from other countries? Because that would account for over half the players

Mailman the 2nd

And England has 2.5 times the population of Australia.

Being the 2nd most watched sport gives cricket a decent amount more money than other sports, which should equate to a higher skill level.

Not to mention England invented cricket.....

^^ see: why cricket isn't popular

Football is attended and played by about 10 times more people than cricket too.

Cricket's played/supported by about twice as many aussies than brits, dwi

btw, all I was trying to say was lehmann's overrated :3 trust aussies to go crazy about nothing. cricket's all about HGA, if he's not flowered by South Africa...

Mailman the 2nd

Of course the media rates Lehmann ridiculously high. They're the media that's what they do.

The English media are doing the exact same, basically spewing hatred of Cook and Andy Flower and how they should be dumped.

There would hardly be enough extra Australian cricketers to justify a 5-0 sweep as an excuse.

Nige

To be fair to Boof Lehmann, he's had success with nearly every team he's coached. Deccan Chargers, Queensland Bulls, Brisbane Heat and now the Australian National team.

Football, tennis, swimming, cycling, golf, rugby union+league, boxing and...athletics? Does that count?
Um, I'll maybe give you soccer and rugby but apart from that... The Poms love their cricket mate ::)
It's called football in Australia too you nit ::)

PowerBug

depends where you live and who you speak to on that one. ;) I think to the majority on this forum it's soccer, and football is AFL. :)

Anyway, forget that, ODIs! I like this form, it's fun. :)

It was officially changed to football years ago. Football Federation Australia ;)

Jukesy

I say soccer when it isn't blatantly obvious which I'm referring too (i.e. out of the blue) and I'm talking to aussies/americans. Otherwise I say football.

It really shouldn't be as big of a deal as it sometimes is.

Capper

There is League, Union, Footy and Football. Thats how i tell them apart

Vinny

I say soccer, I don't really care though. And I say footy for AFL.

elephants

Hahaha this is a nonsensical debate started because Jukes and Cic need an excuse for sucking so much shower in the Ashes. Poor confused children.
