Sure if you have 2 players to select from that you want to bring in and cement a spot in the best XI, if it's a toss up, pick the younger one, but otherwise we should just pick our best team for every series, regardless of age.

He did get lucky through other injuries, and I believe it was a good chance to give another younger bowler a chance at the top level. However can't dispute anything now, he carved up the English, made one go home and another retire, do not drop him now. :o

In that case, you should ask SA to drop these players:
Smith, Kallis, Peterson, Amla, Steyn, Tahir (shower anyway)
And then ABdV, Faf, Morkel, Duminy are all 29, so may as well kick them out as well.

This leaves Philander at 28, who then only has 2 years left at best.
