I agree that Bailey, Rogers should never have made the team, and guys like Johnson shouldn't have been recalled, and instead those guys Cic has listed should've been given the chance. (However I would not go dropping Johnson now btw, just saying he shouldn't have come in, a view many Aussie supporters shared aswell)

I think you need to not look at the team as if the current side existed, as then it looks crazy. On it's own it has alot of merit to it, and before this ashes series I think some of those players should've been playing.

No Clarke or Smith though is overkill. ;)

You can say that maybe Johnson shouldn't have been recalled, and wouldn't have if Starc, Bird, Cummins or Pattinson were fit. But now that he is in the team, surely you must want to keep him? He is in the form of his life right now, might as well use him while he is good, and then ditch him for the young kids when he goes bad again.

yeah i agree with noto07 a few posts up, cricketers generally only really hit their prime in between the 30 - 35 age bracket (batsmen anyway - obviously varies a bit for bowlers depending on a number of factors such as whether they are seamers or spinners)

bodes well for guys like AB and amla doesn't it!! and what about cook --- 40+ centuries in his career for the taking!! especially if they drop him down the order to 4 (which is what ive reckoned they should do for a while now)

In that case, you should ask SA to drop these players:
Smith, Kallis, Peterson, Amla, Steyn, Tahir (shower anyway)
And then ABdV, Faf, Morkel, Duminy are all 29, so may as well kick them out as well.

This leaves Philander at 28, who then only has 2 years left at best.
