Ugh i hate the "we're winning its ok" mentality. Complacency breeds mediocrity.

He has contributed nothing this series. If Australia were losing, he'd be first out the door.

We need an anchor at 6 like Ian Bell, not a 20/20 slogger with his bat held sideways

yeah i agree

funny thing is our bowlers seem to have better techniques than half our batsmen... johsnon/pattinson/starc/agar look technically superior to smith... less moving parts and a nice straight blade lol

Yeah they do lol, but he still has a worse average this series than all of them  :P

wish we dropped Smith. You guys are cricket geniuses.

Bailey > Smith any day of the week.

Smith barely counts as a bowler so there's no real versatility there and Bailey much more competent batter for pitches like in Perth

I mean Steve Smith got bowled by Monty Panesar I don't know what more evidence you need to say he's a bad batter.

It's not as if dropping him will mean the end for his career, so there's 0 point in making the "he's gonna be captain" argument"

There's always room for improvement, I can guarantee 100% Smith would be gone now if Australia were 0-2 down, but people try to make silly excuses when they're winning. This is far from the perfect team

Agree. Bailey out, Watson to 6, Hughes in at 3.

Bit harsh on Bailey.
Don't get me wrong, I love Bailey as a one-day player, but just don't think he's suited in the test format. Watson can't bat at 3, he's just not good enough, and I think Hughes is. So putting Hughes at 3, it's then Watson vs Bailey, and I think Watson beats Bailey in batting, and obviously is a pretty decent bowler in terms of not giving away many runs at all, and therefore building pressure on the opposing side and forcing them to do something stupid and give their wicket away.

Basically I think Hughes has to come in, and I think Watson has to bat lower, so this seems like the most logical solution.

I guess that's a good point, but we need him for a couple of years until we get a real vice captain. If Clark's back goes we're stuffed without him.

If he's not good enough, he shouldnt play. Address the leadership issues when necessary but just pick your best team for now - and Hughes is easily in that best 11.

smith's finest moment in his career to date for sure, and not a moment too soon ... great ton! he loves the pull shot and they fed him it all day!!! thank god for our tail apart from warner/clarke our top 6 has been absolute poo and apart from smith coming good... nothing's changed in that regard for years

the main thing is that australia are almost home already... 400 will be more than enough... if johnson blasted england away on a comparatively much slower and lower adelaide, he will certainly have them rocking when australia bowl tomorrow

All you Stevie Smith haters will learn evenutally. This guy is here for a long time, and he will lead this team after Clarke, whether you want to believe it or not. What a hundred! That ton, may just be enough to secure the Ashes, 143/5 the English would've been hoping 200 all out, Smith you absolute superstar!
