thankyou very much Nails, there is no need to drop Smith. He wasn't far off Clarke runs wise in England.

they'll keep him in more because you don't change a winning team than anything though... not because of excellent performance lol

if we were losing and he dished up that in the first 2 tests, he'd probably be dropped ... but yes i agree give him more of a go

Mailman the 2nd

Well he sucks badly now, he threw a bunch of full tosses at the batsmen and looked like he was batting with a golf club

Nails

Australia vs. England in England:
Clarke - 381 runs 47.63 average - 0 wickets
Smith - 345 runs 41.5 average - 4 wickets

PowerBug

Yes, that's correct. I went through and added them up myself last week or so because I thought my man had knocked off Clarkey :o Got very close still. :)

If you drop Steve Smith, then who is going to captain the Aussies after Clarke? ;) Just sayin, Smith is the man, he needs to stay.

dunno how u calculated the average but it's actually 38... anyway, you take the 89 and 138* made on flat decks when we were making massive totals anyway and it looks pretty bad

and in the first 2 tests here it's pretty ugly as well

funnily enough i reckon his best contribution was actually those 3 wickets he took late day 1 at lords... he put us in a great position but that's forgotten because we folded for nothing on a great batting wicket

CA is grooming Matty Wade for the job, as well as Smith. I feel they have moved on from any hope of the job going to Warner after his bad year.

PowerBug

Yep, Matthew Wade will captain the Aussies from behind the stumps playing for Victoria. :o :P Nah but really, play him if they want to captain him, y bring in spud Bailey?

Bailey is in in case Clarke's back collapses in the next couple of years before one of the younger guys is ready.

And Wade will be back keeping after Haddin retires, unfortunately. CA pushed Victoria to make him captain, when it should have stayed with White. He does seem to be in better form without the captaincy though, so maybe it has been good for him. I won't be happy though, until Chris Hartley plays a test match. Then they can make Doug Bollinger captain and I wouldn't care.

My bad, it is 38.... I thought he had 2 not outs.

You can't just take out 89 and 138* that's the stupidest reasoning ever.

We scored big because Smith played well. Of our top 7 only 2 made it past 30. Steve Smith's 138* was one of them. If he was out for a duck we would've been bowled out cheap.

You can't just say "well it was a flat deck the fact he scored is irrelevant"

You still have to score on a flat deck. Look at England, that pitch was flat as flat gets, they didn't score.

Yeah think it was Sidds that got him - loved Watson's re-acting of it in the replay! ;D

Stokes and Johnson both reported by the ICC ... then charges are dropped

Mailman the 2nd

I mean Steve Smith got bowled by Monty Panesar I don't know what more evidence you need to say he's a bad batter.

It's not as if dropping him will mean the end for his career, so there's 0 point in making the "he's gonna be captain" argument"

There's always room for improvement, I can guarantee 100% Smith would be gone now if Australia were 0-2 down, but people try to make silly excuses when they're winning. This is far from the perfect team

Bill Manspeaker

Michael Clarke also got bowled by Monty Panesar, does that make him a bad batter?

also just came here to post this as I reckon it's pretty funny and I hadn't noticed it (or double checked it);
QuoteRyan Harris and Mitchell Johnson are both averaging more with the bat this series than any player in the England team.
