Yeahh Smith's previous ashes form was awesome.. So his selection warrants. Watson will be a certainty providing fully fit. But Faulkner for sure will be on standbye.

Also what time is the selection done at?? Should be soon?

No surprises really, wanted Sayers over Johnson, but that was unrealistic knowing the selectors, feel for Khawaja and Hughes however.

Seems like Doolan was ahead of those 2 anyway. Both those fellas have had a number of chances to cement a spot. I love Khawaja, he just cant seem to put together a decent score :(. Has the ability though! Maybe lacks confidence,,

Will just point out why I think SOK is the #1 option for the test spinner spot.

In the 2 Shield matches thus far:

Lyon:
1/29 off 15.5 (wickets: Butterworth)
3/88 off 30 (wickets: Silk, Paine, Butterworth)
2/58 off 26 (wickets: Rogers, Hastings)
1/109 off 38.2 (wickets: Rogers)
for a total of 7/284 off 110.1

SOK:
1/25 off 18 (wickets: Cowan)
3/53 off 21.2 (wickets: Doolan, Wells, Gulbis)
2/29 off 16 (wickets: D.Hussey, Ahmed)
2/51 off 21 (wickets: Handscomb, Finch)
for a total of 8/158 off 76.2

Not saying Lyon's figures are bad or anything, and at least they are both picking up some scalps rather than just the bowlers ;)

Xavier Doherty should be the spinner!

Jokes, even his average is better than the spud that is ashton "definitely not australian" agar.

We only get the final team selection at the toss, unless they decide to name the final XI earlier, which is unusual but it does happen.

Steve O'Keefe should have gone to India over Doherty, and we might have won a match or two then. He is the best spinner in the country, and has been for a year or two, but he has done something to piss off the selectors, they don't like him and won't pick him.

Happy with Smith getting the run, looks to have matured nicely! Happy with most of it tbh except ....

Really wanted them to stick with the younger guys and rebuild properly, no Khawaja? Hughes? Paine not ready?

They had the chance to groom these younger guys, they kept rotating it all and flowered it up ::)  Now we patch up again with old men!

You dont rebuild during an Ashes series.

My Chumps

Yeah, get the best XI out there for the Ashes and worry about long term later.

The_Captain

There really only 2 older batsmen there that dont have 5 years in them or more, rogers and haddin. So not too much rebuilding needed. Slow and steady introduce 1 or 2 at a time is the wise move..

Doesnt Haddin have 5 years experience?? Surely he does

Fairly sure he means 5 years left in the team

My Chumps

I would still rather Matthew Wade or Tim Paine in the team over Haddin tbh.
