Now we know why Clarke fired up with Anderson threatning to punch Bailey in the face haha. Knew there would be a reason for Clarkey to get so fired up and deservedly so.

The only other player contracted by cricket australia is Doherty and he can not play tests for shower. We don't have anyone else so we just play Lyon in wait of someone else to come along.

Been saying for years that Steve O'Keefe should be getting a gig.
This. Really hope he gets a call up for the Sydney test over Fawad if they decide to go with two spinners.

And you don't need to be contracted to play a test. If you play enough matches, you do get a contract though.

And I don't think that spinners are too much of a dying breed in Australia. We are still just getting over the Warne/MacGill era, and we have found someone in Nathan Lyon who is quality. In 2 and a half years, being in and out of the team as well, he has something like 80 wickets. If he plays for another two and a half, I see him being somewhere near 200 wickets if he plays every game and improves. I think our greatest ever finger spinner has something in the 140s, so Lyon has the potential to be one of our spin greats.

People have left me so many posts to reply to overnight, and I can't be bothered addressing them, so you win blah blah w/e. But in light of the receant Trott scenario, guess what that means? Yep, England have secured the Ashes, because if they are smart Gary Ballance is going to get a call up, and then the Aussies are all mighty screwed. >:D

I can't keep the smile off my face right now, 6 months of talking this guy up as a superstar and outta nowhere he's a big chance of playing test cricket. ;D

I would normally agree, but the way so many people get all huffy and puffy without thinking through things makes me disagree. ;)

Haha your kidding me. Where were you born mate.

me

although trott was looking pretty bad, him leaving a vacant number 3 slot is not good news for england, no team likes an unsettled batting lineup especially during a series, and if they shuffle bell to 3, their 5,6 are going to look pretty suss with root and bairstow/ballance/theotherguy

i actually hope they put bell 3, i'm sure the aussie team will fancy getting him to nick off with a newer ball

either way, england's batting lineup is looking far more vulnerable than a few years or even months ago...

Scrads

Wish I could see the look on PBs face when Bairstow plays the next test :P

When I saw it live i thought England were complaining about bad light tbh, then the Aussies started sledging them about it lol

Sounds like they are unhappy yeah, but I'd wait until after the 2nd test before continuing the sledging. ;) Gary Ballance is gonna play, that around the wicket short pitched crap that seems to be the only way Australia can get wickets will get dispatched by Ballance. And as good as Lyon is I can't see him doing a Jim Laker and taking all but one of the wickets in the match. :P

Meh, he plays for Yorkshire too so I don't care about that too much. But he sucks, and that's why Ballance has to play, because he has no weakness. #solidasarock And it will be interesting to see who goes to 3, I hope Ballance goes there because it signals intent that he's going to stay for a while, however if Root goes to 3 then I think GB has alot more work to do. :(

And Scrads, if you're at the test on Day 1 then you might be able to see my face should Bairstow play. :P

Yadayadayadayada where were you born PB.
You also don't mention anything about Anderson threatning to punch Bailey in the face, life is a two way street mate its not all one way traffic, the poms should take a cold shower and chill plus the shower wouldn't hurt tbh.

me

lol just saw ballance is born in Zimbabwe - good one england :P

Toga

Yeah hahahaha I find it funny you think the sledging wasn't going both ways mate. Surely you're not that naive ???
