Am I the only one who really likes Carberry? :P The rest of em can flower off though.
I'm a Carberry fan.
I'm glad.
I dont mind Carbs, but I feel he is keeping Englands future out of the team.

Probably is, but they could have picked somebody a lot worse.

I'm not too sure on Carberry. I hadn't seen him play before the Ashes series, but from what I had read he has a reputation from the short form games as a big hitter, not unsimilar from David Warner.

During this series he didn't play many shots and didn't take it to the Aussie attack. His first instinct was to always block and survive, instead of scoring runs. I think this is what England missed at the top of the order throughout the series, a counter attacking player at the top of the order that could put pressure back on the opposition straight away. His performances really disappointed me because of how long it took him to score his runs and how he never looked like he wanted to score, only to survive. And don't get me started on the way he pulls the bat inside the line of the ball to leave ::). When he leaves the ball like that you cannot call him unlucky when he drags one on.

I think Root should have stayed in over Carberry in the last test, but it looks like both will get an extended run in the team anyway, so it will be interesting to see what Carberry does with his opportunities.

There's one final comment I think is worth mentioning, as it has been an issue raised with Australian cricket for a while now. Michael Clarke didn't score 1000 runs, he's been the man recently, "No Clarke, No Australia." That didn't occur this series, he made a couple of nice hundreds, but it wasn't a disaster when he got out cheaply, as either runs were on the board already or there was still others that could hold their own to come. I hope that continues in South Africa. :) Smith matured alot during that series, and a younger player can hopefully take Bailey's spot at 6, which will prepare for the future, whilst keeping the core of the squad that will win matches. :)

Agreed, we are more than a 1-man team now.

We have found our number 6, Steve Smith! Don't really think he's good enough to bat at 5 yet...

Yep, 100% agree, the team as a whole stepped up this time around. We weren't reliant on one player which is always good.
