You can banter me, I'm not going anywhere. 8)

Let's use this thread for ODI's too, there's 7 of them, and Gary Ballance will be playing in them, so that's one way to get heaps of banter. :D
No one cares about ODI's

Jroo

@CricketAus: Reports from UK press seem to confirm that Graeme Swann has quit with immediate effect and will not play in Boxing Day Test at MCG. #ashes
:o

Trott and now Swann. Who's next?

Toga

Just saw that Roo - there was an article in the Adelaide papers about Monty Panesar potentially being recalled to the Boxing Day side at the expense of Swann... Wonder what's happening here! :o :-X

Probably not, those pommie fans are nowhere to be seen. Who can we banter? :P
I can continue to say shower for you to bash me about if you like? :P

Mailman the 2nd

Swann certainly one of the best spinners if not the best in recent times, very clever and intelligent bloke he's probably put a lot of thought behind it

surely this isn't JUST because of the tweet he sent out? seems strange to retire halfway through a tour

Mailman the 2nd

Quote"I could have made myself available for the last two Tests and maybe had a bit of a send-off from the Barmy Army. But that's no reason to hang on for two more games. I like to be the centre of attention -- but for the right reason by winning games of cricket."

Likely he wanted to retire after the series anyway. While he seems somewhat egotistical, I think he realises that England are going to be needing a fresh start with blokes like Root and Stokes

BB67th

Swann retired, Trott won't play again.

There was an article in The Age today about how one of Kevin Pietersen or Andy Flower should go as they are both getting too big for the team. Maybe they clean house entirely and both of them leave as well?

It is really surprising news though. Swann is only 34, that's still young for a spinner. I just don't understand why he would retire now.

Seeing as Monty will play the last 2 tests, 5-0 is almost a certainty I feel.

was talkin to a mate and joked about getting ass raped in the Ashes series.

he just said that it had nothing to do with his retirement at his press conference

Nige

There's been talk of him being dropped. That's no way to go out if he was in fact going to retire after this even though, as said, 34 is young for a spinner. Going out now, on his own terms, is probably better than being seen to retire after a whitewash.  ???
