You don't pick a guy based on that... You pick him on red-ball form, something Bailey doesn't have.

Btw Australia haven't won a test since Hussey retired. Says something about the great man, that does!
We can always try it your way.

Play Clarke and not Bailey, have Pup (Australia's best and most influential player at present as far as on-field performances go - has saved them time and time again) do his back and never be able to play the game, elect Haddz or Watto as the new skip and watch their insufficient leadership skills ruin any chancing of 'returning the urn'. I'm not a big Bailey fan, but you can't take away the fact that the guy has probably the second best leadership/captaincy skills in the country behind Clarke.

And you how do you presume they have insufficient leadership skills? Watto comes higly recommended as a leader.

And dont forget the next captain of Australia,  Steve Smith ;)

He just doesn't seem cut out for it in my eyes, but hey... what do I know? :P

If people don't want George Bailey as skipper to replace Clarke... Steve Smith does a mighty fine job for NSW.

I dont think Smith is ready for it quite yet, but I do think that one day down the track, maybe 3-5 years, certainly. I agree with Nige 100 percent about Watto.

I'm pretty sure I've agreed with you before?  ??? :P

I've heard Cameron White is an outstanding leader and was actually touted as a future test captain when he was younger.

Victorian bias can't be taken out of what I'm about to say...

But this is true.

JBs-Hawks

His leadership might be of test quality, but his batting certainly isnt.

Phil Hughes giving the selectors' a timely reminder right before the Ashes ;)

Who would I pick KK? I'd pick Steve Smith of course. In fact, I'd be trying to get Pup to stand down after this ashes tour to get Smith going now. Just like South Africa did with their Smith, gave him the top job at 21, do similar with ours, and watch him grow the test team into a powerhouse again.

Smith is the man, I'd chuck him at 3 now, make him captain, and watch the kid become a hero. :)

Clarke is definitely a very good on field captain, but I wonder how good he is at leading the team off the field. He sees to be forced to spend a fair chunk of his time away from the team with his troublesome back, and like Ponting has said in his book recently, he doesn't share all the same values as previous captains have.

For the record I still think he is out best captain right now, but I really hope that he can get the team to start to follow him off the field too.

What a double ton for Hughesy! Pity we have spud Bailey locked in the team ::)
