no everyone, we can't use our compo pick on a father son. Also we need to respond to another teams selection within the same round. So the kid has to drop to at least 3rd round

If your father son prospect is any good, you'll be forced to use either 1st round or give him up.

Remember though that Gary Ablett Jnr. was taken very late in the father-son draft
Remember he wasn't a particularly outstanding junior player. :P

There's hope for everyone then :P

Also silloc, rules state that if you bid your highest available draft pick (whether it be 1 or 150) then you automatically get the player, regardless of how high other bids are.

It stacks as well, so if you have 2 guns for FS in one year, you only have to offer your first and second picks

Has to be your first pick before the trade period though I believe ie. no trading away your first pick

F/S happens before trade period, so that can't happen yeah. Pick gets committed there and then

tbh, if the kid was good enough and wanted to play for the bombers we could just tell him not to nominate for the draft until the year after. Then we could just call him up for games in our VFL side :P

Quote
3. If a bid is made, the club that nominated the father-son player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain its hold on that player. If a club nominating the father-son player declines to match the selection nominated, the club with the successful bid must use that selection at the Draft to select the player.

That's the rule, doesn't matter what pick you have.

Did you even read the article????

The AFL confirmed the additional selection which could be pick 19 - handed to them after intense negotiations - could not be used for father-son selections.

"They have a pick after Round 1 but that pick has been inserted into the national draft so it cannot be used on a father-son," AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said.

"They have no father-son rights for Rounds 1 and 2, and cannot bid on another club's father-son players."

I don't know what draft picks the AFL is giving Essendon, but it's largely irrelevant.

Sounds like no one knows what the draft picks will even be.....

I'm not going to listen to the Sun herald lol, you can read the rules yourself.

Like I said we get a pick at the end of the 1st round next year...

Well if you aren't allowed to use it for F/S, then your first available pick will be round whatever (assuming you have late picks)

You would be able to use that for F/S

Essendon FC sanction

Essendon FC:

- is prohibited from exercising, at the 2013 National Draft, its Round 1 and Round 2 selections, as those selections are identified immediately prior to the exchange period as specified under Rule 9.1 and any rights conveyed under Rule 8.1; and

- is prohibited from exercising, at the 2014 National Draft, its Round 1 and Round 2 selections, as those selections are identified immediately prior to the exchange period as specified under Rule 9.1 and any rights conveyed under Rule 8.1.

EFC will, in 2014, be granted a selection at the end of Round 1 of the National Draft prior to any compensation selections otherwise awarded under the Rules.

take it how you will, but to me the sanctions say that we give up our right on rule 8.1 (father-son)

Ringo

This probably one part of the sanctions that slipped under the radar and will really hurt next year if our interpretations are correct,
