I feel like we should have a thread to discuss the National team considering the drama going on. Good title too, alliteration at its finest ;)

For those who don't know, Holger got sacked after two consecutive 6-0 losses to France and Brazil.

The France one should've really only been 5-0 considering that first bullsh*t penalty, but anyway.

Gus Hiddink has apparently been contacted for the role.

Did the FFA expect Australia to be able to come close to competing with France? They think that this is a footballing nation, but we're not. A few lucky successful outcomes against Japan (win), Croatia (draw to progress) and Italy (only just lost to the WC winners) have way overhyped this country's footballing image.

France have Ribery, Benzema, Evra, Nasri, Giroud...Munich, Madrid, United, City and Arsenal.
Brazil have Neymar, Hulk, Paulinho, Luiz, Alves...Barca, Zenit, Spurs, Chelsea and Barca.
Australia meanwhile have Neill, Cahill, Holman, Kennedy, Bresciano...some Japanese team, New York, Al-Nasr, another Japanese team and a Qatar team.

Stop me if I'm rambling, but if they expect the players that Australia currently have to come close to competing with teams like France and Brazil no matter who the coach is, the FFA have seriously got to rethink their strategy.

I think part of the problem is David Gallop. Dude is an absolute f*cking idiot, couldn't manage the NRL and can't manage the FFA.

Just gotta build for the future. Blood youngsters a lot more in the national team and ensure they get the best possible training, both in terms of physical skills and mental skills. They have to start dumping oldies like Neill, Schwarzer, Cahill, Bresciano, Thompson and Kewell who get in on reputation alone and start playing these gun youngsters. One key part of this is ensuring they get experience both domestically and overseas. Having a sustained coaching staff and squad will also play a key role. And, most importantly, get the right mindset into the coaches, players and FFA.

This team if managed correctly could challenge next year for the round of 16, with the help of a few old blokes, and could make the top 8 in 2016.
Ryan
Galloway, Sainsbury, Good, Goodwin
de Silva, Amini
Williams, Rogic, Oar
Kruse
Bench: Langerak, McGowan, Chapman, Behich, Antonis, Irvine, Halloran, Taggart, Duke

Good to see my quote doing it's rounds :P Jukes for Fox Sports haha!

No Chris Herd Jukes? Maybe Rhys Williams should get another crack too.

And Langerak > Ryan for now.

There's a few others that too that I don't know much about but they play for PL teams.
- Jake Adelson, 17 year old plays for Everton
- Jordan Lyden, 16, Aston Villa
- Giancarlo Gallifuoco, 19, Tottenham
- Dylan Tombides, 19, West Ham - actually I do know a bit about this guy. Touted as an up and coming star then was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 16/17 and went through a year of chemotherapy for it. I think he's fully fit again now, but the impact the cancer has had might stop him from being as good as once thought.

Problem is though, we're a proud nation and really don't want to be embarrassed in Rio. I think Cahill and maybe Wilshere should remain in the team.

I can't remember every player haha

yeah he'd probably sit on the bench. Rate de Silva higher.

Haha, wasn't criticising, just suggesting. You did a good job tbh

I think Holger didn't do himself any good with those comments in between the Brazil and France games in having a go at his critics about what do you expect we are playing Brazil and now France do you really think we are in there class?

Truth hurts and you shouldn't have said that. As soon as I heard him say it I knew he was going.

It wasn't all that interesting tbh.  It was just him going on a rant and him thinking Holger was sacked because we lost to France in a friendly, lol.  In reality, this has been coming for a long time, and if any of you have actually watched us properly in recent times you will know it's because of those performances.

I wasn't actually talking about you, I was talking about certain people who have assumed Holger was sacked because we lost to France.

Cicjose

the last i checked aside from qualifying for the WC Holger has done nothing

Just watched the France game, langerak made some really good saves, the back 4 was sooo much slower than the likes of ribery and benzema, it looked like I was playing fifa on amateur.

gotta play Canada tomorrow morning if recent results are a guide this Canadian team should spank this team

This is a pretty good summation :P

The problem is we seriously lack good CB's. Maybe Curtis Good should get a chance next game, and play Herd at RB.
