Looking back at the drafts Essendon has drafted horribly between picks 15 and 35. Take a look

2000: #15 James Davies (3 games), #27 Ted Richards (33 games in 4 seasons for essendon) #32 Sam Hunt (7 games)

2001: #18 Shane Harvey (14 games), #31 Joel Reynolds (38 games) #34 Simon O'Keefe (0 games)

2002: #27 Darren Walsh (2 games), #28 Tristan Cartledge (9 games)

2003: #28 Jay Nash (51 games)

2004: #30 Andrew Lee (5 games)

2005: #19 Courtenay Dempsey (88 games)

2006: #18 Leroy Jetta (91 games), #20 Tom Hislop (27 games)

2007: #23 Tayte Pears (68 games)

2008: #23 David Zaharakis (87 games) (very good draft)

2009: #24 Jake Carlisle (49 games), #26 Travis Colyer (34 games), #33 Anthony Long (0 games)

2010: #31 Ariel Steinberg (0 games)

2011: #19 Elliott Kavanagh (4 games), #31 Jackson Merrett (14 games)

2012: #34 Jason Ashby (0 games)

Also not one of these players played over 11 games in their first season

I thought it was interesting, surely no other club has a list like this

Ricochet

Looking at the recent years i think you've done very well, from 2005 onwards anyway.

I think you'll find the 2011 batch is gonna be brutal, and 3rd year is always the best season for newbies.

National 1 19  Elliott Kavanagh
National 2 31  Jackson Merrett
National 3 59  Nicholas O'Brien
Rookie 1 11  Lauchlan Dalgleish
Rookie 2 29  Corey Dell'Olio
Rookie 3 47  Mark Baguley
(alex browne is also around same age)

also sheedy years and our drafting was terrible, not blaming sheedy for it just stating the facts (although I hate the concept of recycling)

Lucky the afl took your draft picks :P

Mailman the 2nd

Strange that Essendon are so competitive in this time-frame when their higher picks from 2000-2007 were pretty shocking overall

pretty much, like I don't think it will affect us as much as people are thinking because we have stuffed up drafting before, it's just the top 15 picks that might sting a little

we've been lucky with rookies, hocking, howlett, crameri, baguely, bellchambers, hardingham, lovett, lovett-murray, hibberd, even josh jenkins was a good talent pickup.

dallgleish and dell'ollio will be good also

it says to me that our talent scouts for mature age selections and players who haven't been drafted are better than our National Draft scouts/decision makers

hence why we just went straight for kommer and van unen in the national draft. I hope we do the same with duscher and draft him straight into the seniors don't flower around

I think it's just easier to gauge the ability of mature aged players. I think in the next couple of years we're going to see even more being drafted.

That being said, it's becoming a lot easier to gauge the youth as well.

l reckon it'd be a good investment to fork out the coin for the best recruiters/talent scouts for the National Draft .......it doesnt come under the salary cap, but paying the wages of dud players for a few years does
