The board saga continues and it is getting to the stage where I am seriously considering my continuing membership.

"The Board also received legal advice from the Club's lawyers establishing that Leigh Matthews and Ross Thornton do not qualify for appointment as elected Directors under the Club's Constitution as they are Life Members and only Full Members with 2 years continuous membership are eligible for appointment as Directors at a General Meeting.
Life Members are not Full Members under the Club"

Had to re submit stuff this copy and paste not working.

Copy and paste issue there again Ringo.

From reading that statement though, what does this mean for the board takeover? I have no doubt that Johnson will be sacked along with his supporting directors. So now Matthews cannot form a part of the board, but Power is still going for it?

Ringo

Club is in breach of constitution at the moment as EGM was to be called by last Friday.  Suspect further Legal advice will be sought on the ruling regarding Life Members  Matthews was inducted in 2008 and Thornton in 1989.

It would appear that Johnson is being very stubborn and this is his way of holding on to the position.  He is really stuffing the club with his attitude and will be his fault if the AFL take over.

Just concerned that this latest episode may convince those couple of players that are wvering to return home.

And finally fixed the initial post after sorting out the copy and paste.

You would have to think that Life Members are on at least equal status, if not higher than full members. The constitution really needs to be changed if life members can't be a part of the board. That's not right.

"For your info Lions board can solve problem by making life members eligible as full voting members, they are choosing not to" he wrote on Twitter.

Matthews is correct in this statement

Form the constitution clause 4.1.c

Life Members
Life membership may be granted by the Board to those outstanding members of the
Corporation and Life Members will have the rights and privileges as set by the
Board from time to time.

So board can change to give Life members full voting rights.

Really disgusted with the attitude as we need some footballing nous on the Board if we are to go forward.  We are the only club without this in the AFL.

Lethal going off via twitter today...

"The stubbornness of Angus Johnson Linda Nash Cameron Milner Peter McGregor not to let the members have there say is astounding"

Ringo - How unhappy would you be if he now was turn his back on the Lions and take over from Dunstall at the Hawks??

Ringo

Real unhappy Sydney especially as he lives in Brisbane. Pettiness on behalf of Johnson and the majority of members I have contact with feel the same way.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-14/lions-group-over-board

Yet another Group has surfaced which wants a new board completely.  While I applaud their objectives think it will muddy the waters further.

Here is the extract of their 4 objectives from the email sent to members: (Hope I have worked out all the copy paste issues)

After the disrespect shown to Michael Voss by the Board and all the public in-fighting since then, the case for change is clear. It is time we moved on from board faction fights and power games.

We want the Lions to proceed with the EGM immediately. Members need to direct the future of our Club not lawyers.  We have a 4 point positive plan for the EGM.

1)      We want to restore Lethal to the Gabba.
We propose an immediate change to the Lions Constitution to allow Life Members to have a vote. We propose if that gets up that Leigh Matthews be voted immediately onto the Board. He has made the Lions a success before and there is no doubt he can do it again.

2)      Directors interested in the Club and not just themselves.
For the sake of Club unity, we need a fresh start and have the members decide. Both factions of this board feud are to blame and Power and Williams are no different from the rest.

We will be moving to add Williams and Power to the EGM resolutions so the members can decide on their actions.

We also want as many people to look to nominate as directors by November 1 for the upcoming AGM so we have a strong field of candidates from which members can choose.

3)      We want the winning Lion back on the Brisbane Lions Guernsey.
We want the triple premiership Lion logo back. The current Paddle Pop Lion image has never even been seen in the finals. It is not a symbol of success, quite the opposite. So we want the EGM to remove the current Paddle Pop Lion and restore the original Lion. Let's restore the Lions' pride.

4)      We want more spent on football and less on Admin
We see no reason why we the members can not tell the Club to start spending on the players, the coaches and the game

This does need resolution and while these ideals are good there needs to be some continuity on the board.

I agree Ringo, this will definitely muddy the waters.  Although I do agree with all of their objectives.  Either way Johnson must go.

Ringo

Thanks Darbium -

The only resolution as I see it is for Constitution to be amended to allow Life members to be elected to board.

Johnson must go he says he is standing on his record and as i have said in previous posts well that is enough to vote him out as I have detailed 3 very strong issues members disagree with board on.

http://www.lions.com.au/news/2013-10-23/lions-board-resolution

At long last we have a resolution to the Board issues which guarantee continued AFL Funding,

Bob Sharpless is the new chairman with Angus Johnson, Linda Nash and Paul Williams leaving the Board.

The issue of the Lions Guernsey will be discussed at the AGM now in December as this resolution has now removed the need for the EGM,

Happy with the Board with the appointment of Bob Sharpless as chairman and Leigh Matthews now being Director of Football Operations on the Board.

Hopefully now this resolution will allow the AFL to release funds to allow us to fully fund our Football Department coaching staff and pay 100% of Salary Cap.

Ringo (and other Lion's fans), do you feel this board drama led to or contributed to all the young players wanting to move clubs/back home??

it just seems with the kids nominating where they all wanted to go, that the club is/has been screwed by the other clubs and not getting anything close to 'fair-value' in proposed trades ...   :-\
