Heard buddy wants to cash in before he gets his 3rd strike :P
:o

So Lance is getting out of the fishbowl that is Melbourne and moving to Sydney where he won't be recognised as much, but also becoming an ambassador/the face of AFL in NSW? Makes sense.

True story. In a Sydney cab at the mo. Asked the cabbie what he thought about Bud to the Swans. "Who?" Ambassador money justified it seems.
To be fair that's not just Sydney. There's that add (I think for NAB) where people are explaining the rules to others and ends up with a cabbie explaining the rules to Joel Selwood. He clearly had no idea who he was :P

hahahha

that's a fair point.

even as an ambassador though, he will be less recognised in Sydney significantly. He's also one of the most marketable players.

i knew that Buddy would never got to GWS. But to come to Sydney and he was the one that asked as well

The AFL could block the buddy move apparently.  :o

"The AFL is concerned the length of the deal may cripple the Swans if Franklin retires or is delisted early, with the club forced to pay out the remainder of the contract in one lump sum."

This is the only thing that i am worried about but there is no chance that the AFL will block it

Veterans list makes this interesting as well.

In 4 years time Buddy can be eligible for vets list. If the front end of his deal is short, then they can stack the back end and get it reduced by being on vets list.

Yeah, you're right. I missed the "and", that comes with the being on club list for 10 years.

Since 1950, there have been over 6600 players to play VFL/AFL game. Only 36 played past their 35th birthday.

Omg that is actually amazing.

Basically backloaded contract means Swans don't have to pay that much to the cap.

ultimate play

Lance Franklins impending move to Sydney is motivated out of a desire to leave the "fishbowl" environment of Melbourne according to Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland.

Buddy on trade radio:

QuoteThe footy club's been a massive part of my life. Alastair Clarkson too, it's been tough on him and his family

I'm excited. Looking forward to getting up to Sydney.

Packing my bags up at Hawthorn and saying goodbye to the boys is something very tough and upsetting

Q: Is it true you made up your mind a year ago to move to Sydney?
A: "Not at all. I made my decision pretty much last minute."

The boys have been really good, I've had some close mates at the footy club for a long time

I sat down and had a chat to them (teammates) yesterday, (the club) is what's made me the person I am today

I truly hadn't made up my mind before the grand final. I just wanted to win a grand final and left a two time premiership player.

Hopefully there's more to come (flags with Sydney)

Its good to see there's some evidence that Franklin's desire to leave the club and go to Sydney was at least a major factor in him signing on.

Certainly will help silence certain unnamed individuals with rocks for brains ::)

This article sums it up pretty well.
