I'm no mathematician of sporting game strategist but to win a game you would have to score more points/goals than your opponent.

Not sure if you are talking about FIFA or real life, either way, fans would rather see their team win silverware. That won't happen with 5-4's. In FIFA, GD in online leagues matters a whole lot since their are less games played.
