big difference is most of our players are much younger and we have a gun key forward in development

Waite old
McClean old
Garlett inconsistent
Yarran inconsistent
Thomas playing in the mids
Henderson gun fair enough

who else?

Hurley only injuries holding him back
Chappy old = McClean
Winderlich injury prone but very good
Bellchambers gun R/F
Ryder gun R/F/D
Carlisle gun D/F
Davey
Jetta
Merrett future M/F
Hardingham mainly defender can play forward
Daniher GUN in the making

think i prefer ours

Carlton have a pretty ordinary forward-line too, don't get me wrong but Essendon suffers the exact same problems.

The main difference between the is that Carlton have actual draft picks to select a Tall option this year, I wouldn't think that you guys would use your only decent pick (26) on a Tall.

I get that Daniher will end up a good player, sure. But it looks like 2014 will be Essendon banking on him being able to play all 22 games well. He played 6 fairly average games in 2013, can he really step it up and put pressure off Bellchambers next year?

I have doubts

lol, why would we try and get a key position player this year unless we had pick no.1??? And if we really wanted a tall option, we could just pick up mitch thorp. But i don't see the need. We were struggling to fit talls into the side, and often we'd waste best 22 spots on too many talls. Nothing wrong with a small forward line, we will be fine.

There isn't any reason why daniher can't kick 30 goals this season, he kicked 29 in the VFL off 12 games... how is that such a massive stretch???

and once again, we must play hardingham in the forward line... i've been screaming for this and wont shut up about it

Excusse me whislt i go get horridly drunk

Mailman the 2nd

You seriously believe that Daniher will kick 30 goals next year? He kicked 3 last year, all in one 55 point win game.

I'm not going to say anything else, I'll just keep this here for next year

THis is my fwrd line, how i'd like it. Not actually how our best 22 would be picked

Dell'ollio      Daniher       Hardingham
Winderlich   Hurley         Chapman

Bellchambers = resting ruck

also rotate zaharakis and watson down there when they are getting done by a heavy tag

FOR THE HORDE!

12 scoring shots in 5 games, granted he needs to work on his kicking accuracy, but you really don't rate him?

Needs his kicking to straighten up and he'll be a solid option for us up forward. Main reason why they shifted him back, has a great leap and mark, but was unable to convert well up forward.

I kind of facepalmed when you said Gumby was one of our leading goalkickers Mailman. He's had potential, but his kicking style and injuries have ruined his chances. Crams has been one of my favourites to watch past few years, his 30 goals and second efforts will be missed. Given, we'll have 1 of Hurley/Carlisle and likely Bellchambers/Ryder as the talls, maybe even Daniher here and there. I am not expecting too much from an individual player, obviously the goals are always spread out between the players with quite a lot coming from the midfielders (as shown by Crams being leading goal kicker with around 30 goals for 3 years).

Certainly may struggle a bit to have a spear head like some teams, but formation can still work! Crameri will be a big loss, Gumby not so much, besides all that effort the club put into him for like 7 years I think it was.

Mailman the 2nd

When i said leading i was more referring to Gumbleton as a main target, considering his marking potential.

I don't doubt that Essendon still have a strong team, I just think there's a bit of a delusion as to where the forward line sits. It means that Ryder and Bellchambers need to both be on the ground for nearly the entire game. Not sure that Essendon's midfield scores enough goals to compensate either looking at their 2013 form.

You have good small targets, but when a team's forwardline becomes either too tall/small orientated, it becomes very easy to shut down

kilbluff1985

bit of delusion about the forward line? um no

even with Gumby and Crameri our forward line was our biggest issue most supporters would accept this

yes we are prob worse off now but we can easily put together one with our current list the forward line just needs to work together

specky92

Our biggest forward line problem p, is how we use it, we always tend to pump it in to a 50/50 contest rather than try and hit up a target

yeah, i outlined this very early on in the season. But maybe now we can settle our forward line and lock it in, it might be a good thing.

And who cares if daniher and hardingham aren't straight kicks, at least we can convert our f50 entries into shots on goal

he's kicked 29.25 in the VFL this year, obviously we can't really judge his AFL goal kicking as he was lining up at 40+ in front of huge crowds

silloc

I'm sure it's somthing he will work on before next year. I have high hopes this year, we better pull it off.

Now what type of player do we need in the draft

maybe this should be a new topic, but meh

specky92

Not sure who'll be available at 26 I think it is, but we'd love a Brad Hill type outside midfielder.  :P
