But if he really loved the club and wanted to be a one club player then money wouldn't be a factor?

Not stirring the pot, just offering ideas why he might be thinking this

I think we should take it at face value. He loves the club, would like to stay, but he wants to look at see what others clubs offer him. He's done exactly what Buddy has done really....I don't see what he's done wrong apart from not being upfront at the start of the season about his intentions.
The problem is that it's hard to take at face value when the media slant the story in different directions. Everyone then jumps on board and it snowballs out of control.

I don't envy being in the player's shoes in these instances.
Just ignore the media and listen to what Dusty is actually saying. It's no bigger deal than Daisy or Buddy reallly. He honoured his contract and wants to have a look at his options. People get all angry at sportsman when they don't show loyalty....but Iam sure Tigers fans quit their jobs and move on for a better deal somewhere else everyday. As someone else mentioned...if Dusty had flopped and not lived up to his draft status then Richmond would have happily delisted him
I agree with you. There's plenty out there though who treat every word the media say as gospel  ;)

I think that was evident in that Brandon Ellis quote that someone put up where he said to his manager to take whatever RFC offer.
The clear cut difference between loyalty and greed.

I wonder if we are too harsh, and that 'loyalty' is often a one way street.

Richmond, like all clubs, will axe players that are not performing. Leaving a lot of young adults with no clear future after taking years of there lives. Some would say that is disloyal also...
that is one fine point,
I disagree completely Os. Players have the choice of entering the draft and playing footy, the risk of being cut comes with it. And you make it sound like they get nothing out of those three years. They get a better lifestyle then the average Joe, and better pay too. Like all workplaces, if someone isn't giving 100% or is not fit for the job then they are asked to leave. Same goes for a football club.

Agree Q and no way I'd let such a week frog into Adelaide!

I agree completely with that Q :) All up to the player's choice, no doubt. My point being is that player's are expected to be 'loyal' to a club at the cost of a pay check, but I'm not sure the reverse is true.

According to this Melbourne, Collingwood and Carlton aren't interested any more.

I still think he's a good chance to stay  :-X

Toga

I also think he is a reasonable chance to stay still - think this "testing the waters" thing is more his dickhead manager's doing than Dusty's.

I'm just a bit worried that if we have called their bluff and he does come back to the club that relationships between him and the other players/staff might be a bit tender... :-X

--> I think we should chase Taylor Adams regardless of whether Dusty stays! 8)

Yeah he's manager is a dickhead, has no idea about football. He doesn't care what is best for Dusty, he's only trying to get as much money as possible. He also manages Cloke and we all know what happened last year. The best thing for Dusty to stay, he owes as for how much work we've done for him.
I agree with what you're saying, hopefully the players understand and I'm sure they'll be happy for Dusty to stay.
I really hope we chase Adams, Collinwood are interested in him too. Without giving up Martin our first round pick may get the deal done, but Collingwood have the pick before us  :-\

Yeah I was gonna say this the other day - Ralph Carr is a sack that has no idea about player management - he's in the Show Biz industry, where there's no real concepts of loyalty or team spirit to consider when signing contracts... Feel sorry for Dusty as he's being fed bad advice it seems.

If he stays surely he will make a public apology or something and sack that dickhead Carr.

SydneyRox

Taylor Adams to the Pies makes me sad.
