Footy classified say Tigers removed their offer.... now done. Looking for a deal rather than looking after Martin

Good on us I say. Now to find the best deal possible and be done with it!
+1

This is honestly a shock to me... Why the Flower does he want to leave an improving team?? They finished 5th this season and it looks like the only way is up... I don't understand this at all, is it purely for the money?
Maybe he doesn't get along with the coach/staff/players? He might feel like the club shafted his mate Connors?
All are reasons why a player may feel like he should explore other options
He did also mention his family in his statement. Maybe he does need the extra money to support his family

There are many reasons why a player wants to leave a club other than just being greedy

Ringo

Martin might enjoy the obscurity Queensland offers to get him on track off the field.  Unlikely to eventuate though,

Doesn't seem like that's his motivation from what he said in the video, particularly from 3:20 onwards - I know it was earlier in the year, but still.

"Richmond footy club is the world to me, they've been amazing in supporting me, and I'm gonna give everything back to them, they've been great."

"Would you like to be a one club player over your career, does that appeal to you?" "Yeah, definitely."

I can't see it being for any reason other than wanting more money, the club has given him heaps and has supported him through all of his off-field stuff. For him to walk out after all that and stating he'd be a one-club player, money must be the motive.

Ricochet

But if he really loved the club and wanted to be a one club player then money wouldn't be a factor?

Not stirring the pot, just offering ideas why he might be thinking this

I think that was evident in that Brandon Ellis quote that someone put up where he said to his manager to take whatever RFC offer.
The clear cut difference between loyalty and greed.

I wonder if we are too harsh, and that 'loyalty' is often a one way street.

Richmond, like all clubs, will axe players that are not performing. Leaving a lot of young adults with no clear future after taking years of there lives. Some would say that is disloyal also...

I think we should take it at face value. He loves the club, would like to stay, but he wants to look at see what others clubs offer him. He's done exactly what Buddy has done really....I don't see what he's done wrong apart from not being upfront at the start of the season about his intentions.

take whatever RFC offer and dismiss all other offers out of hand.....would have been the clear cut difference between loyalty and greed

The problem is that it's hard to take at face value when the media slant the story in different directions. Everyone then jumps on board and it snowballs out of control.

I don't envy being in the player's shoes in these instances.

that is one fine point,

Mailman the 2nd

The idea of loyalty from a top 15 draft player is circular logic and pretty much rubbish

Just ignore the media and listen to what Dusty is actually saying. It's no bigger deal than Daisy or Buddy reallly. He honoured his contract and wants to have a look at his options. People get all angry at sportsman when they don't show loyalty....but Iam sure Tigers fans quit their jobs and move on for a better deal somewhere else everyday. As someone else mentioned...if Dusty had flopped and not lived up to his draft status then Richmond would have happily delisted him
