They can use pick 1 in the pre-season draft. So Martin nominates to go in the pre-season draft and GWS take him with pick 1, simple.

he just enters the draft and puts a huge amount on his head

i.e if he says i want 850k a year you gotta give him at least that in his first year

that's how they get to which club they want to go too
say he wants to go to GWS and they wanna use there 4th round to pick him up
he says i want 850k per year
anyone else drafts him and that's what he wants every year for 3 years etc or he won't sign
(of course if someone does sign him and he says no i don't wanna play for you he has to sit out for 12 months)
where as he can do that with GWS but say for them he wants that and they have to pay him the  850k for 1st year but he may agree to get payed 500k the 2nd and 3rd etc

basically if you got the cap room he will let the club he wants to go to front load his contract to scare everyone else off
