i think we might see him sooner then expected only cause i have no faith in Licka or Chappy playing a full season

How about Dell'Olio? Where's he at?

Mr.Craig

Sam Lloyd

Frankston 3/3/90 181cm/85kg

Drafted: Round 4, Pick 66 Richmond

2013 VFL Ave:  71.8

Profile

A mature ager who has played for a number of teams in recent years, Lloyd is a proven goalkicker with a clean pair of hands. He was somewhat wayward in 2013, kicking 38.25 and his fantasy numbers indicate that if he doesn't kick multiple goals you can expect poor scores - 88, 102, 52, 97, 84, 82, 69, 41, 84, 86, 122, 30, 52, 106, 30, 30 and 66. On the surface it appears Lloyd is a ready made replacement for Robin Nahas in the Richmond forward line but I'm sure the recruiters also had one eye on bolstering their new stand alone VFL team. In that respect I'm unsure at the moment just how serious they are about playing him in the seniors but he's an interesting prospect none the less.

Francis Jackson: "Sam continued his progression through the grades this year and was a consistent threat in the forward 50 for Frankston. He is just a genuine football talent. He knows where the ball is going before anyone else, and he is outstanding at winning one-on-one contests, both in the air and at ground level. His marking, in particular, for someone his size, is elite. He has genuine goal 'smarts' and makes creative decisions with the footy. We feel Sam will add genuine class and goal-scoring power to the playing group. There is enormous upside to Sam, and with one or two AFL pre-seasons under his belt, he will be able to display his natural talents more consistently at the elite level."

Fantasy Prospects

Far too early to call, probably looms as a downgrade option but would come with a certain level of risk.

Mr.Craig

Cameron Giles

Woodville-West Torrens 5/5/95 195cm/93kg

Drafted: Round 3, Pick 39 Carlton

2013 SANFL U/18 Ave: 81

Profile

Originally from country S.A, Giles is a tall rebounding defender who has also had experience in the midfield and ruck. The first thing you'll notice about Giles is his speed which is almost unparalleled for someone his size, the guy moves like a rabbit. His marking (season high - 15) and disposal efficiency are also outstanding and he can get a heap of the ball too when given the opportunity to play loose. Cameron played in the Eagles premiership winning side, often finding himself near the top of the stats sheet with scores for the season of 109, 75, 62, 65, 79, 106, 105, 33 and 95. He needs to work on his tackling and a few other aspects of his game but he looks to be a very exciting prospect, and one who could be fantasy relevant in 2014.

SC Paige: An athletic freak, Giles is a brilliant athlete and his mobility for a player of his size is what makes him such a tantalising prospect ahead of this year's draft. Often seen rebounding from defense, playing as if he were 15cms shorter. Giles loves to run and carry - a trait unheard of for players his size - which, history tells us he should be playing as a shutdown player, channelling his energy into shutting down a key forward. But not Giles. Not only is he gifted in his mobility and agility, he has unheard of speed to break the lines, and constantly present as a threat, a danger player who just creates out of instinct. The great thing about Giles, is that it's his multiple efforts that really present x-factor, he continues to push forward, even when the ball has cleared the area, pushing up to a wing to force his direct opponent be accountable, and with little key forwards able to go the journey with Giles, he racks up an uncanny amount of rebound 50's.

Bound For Glory: Giles is the most attacking big man we have seen for a few years. He loves to take the game on and leaves his man regularly to impact the play and get forward. Giles loves to run and carry which is rarely seen from a man as big as him and he rarely gets caught with the footy due to his great acceleration and vision which allows him to burst clear of the congestion. Once he has got rid of the ball Giles realises his work is not done yet and continues running to try to influence the play once more. On the flip side, he is also very keen to get back to his man which shows that he is certainly a two way runner.

Mad Monday: Giles is an attacking half-back very much in the mould of Richmond's Alex Rance. He can amass high disposal numbers despite being given a defensive role. Giles' run off half-back is particularly eye-catching for a player of his size, he is faster than his 195cm, 93kg frame suggests. Giles is also quite agile, he is capable of changing the direction when running at high speeds and his mobility for a key defender is a vital component to his game. The South Australian also has a damaging right boot, when he is given time and space he hits targets without a hassle. Giles is also a terrific mark of the football, he is strong overhead and ends up in a better position to mark than his direct opponent despite playing as a defender. Giles has above average closing speed and when he is not in a position to mark, he effectively kills the contest.

Fantasy Prospects

I don't have a doubt that Giles has the body and ability to play early in the season. The main concerns would be that we haven't seen what his scoring is like at reserve or senior level yet, he also has competition for a spot from the likes of Everitt, White and McInnes. Another issue may be if he's used as a stay at home full back which would hurt his numbers but I don't think he has the skills to play that role yet so hopefully Carlton will let him run free and rack up the pill.

#476
Louis Herbert

North Ballarat Rebels 27/6/94 188cm/77kg

Drafted: Round 1, Pick 4 Rookie Draft

2013 TAC Ave: 102.1*

*Stats not available for one game.

Profile

Like many people I was surprised to see Herbert overlooked in the 2012 draft but he has finally been taken by Gold Coast as a rookie. As was the case with a few players this year, a move to the half backline was the catalyst for his drafting and his outstanding season saw him win the Adam Goodes trophy as the Rebels' best and fairest as well as the TAC Cup Coaches Award. Herbert was named in the best for all but 2 games he played for the season, averaging a massive 18.3 kicks, 4.7 handballs, 7.5 marks and 3.2 tackles with DT scores of 67, 101, 117, 101, 134, 109, 120, 145, 77, 46 and 106. Louis has some work to do before earning an upgrade and suiting up for the Suns but he shows promise as an attacking third tall at AFL level.

Bound For Glory: The fiery redhead is well adapted to the modern game, where in the cut throat world of AFL one needs to offer an array of skills and benefits to the team. Herbert's versatility is a significant standout: once considered comfortable in the one position, his rotation to the wing this season has proven an advantageous strategic choice. Consequently, Herbert's flexibility across both a forward and defensive position will be a handy addition to any club. Whilst he may not quite have the height to be considered a key tall player to the side, what he lacks in height he makes up for in skills. His kicking is rarely inaccurate and has the strength behind it to be smoothly cleared from defence or added to the chain of scoring assists.

SC Paige: 2013 has been a successful year for the South Warnambool product, who's versatility has become a talking point since moved to a defensive post in the TAC Cup, which ultimately gained him selection in the Vic Metro squad, a position in which Herbert cemented throughout the championships, playing four out of five games for country. Herbert displayed capabilities of playing a tall and small, lockdown and a rebounder, where his strong kicking and elite marking were highlights. In defence, Herbert's long penetrating and accurate kick is a talking point, he gets involved in a lot of play, and is ranked number 1 in the TAC Cup for the most score chain involvements, underlining he is an important avenue to goal, setting up from defence. Pushing up higher to wing, Herbert's vision and ability to read the play has certainty been aided by his time in defence, a strong weapon he has added to his arsenal in 2013.

Mad Monday: When watching him both at the Rebels and for Vic Country, Louis is more comfortable and effective playing as the third shut-down tall and then rotating off half-back as a "quarterback-type" player, where he can utilise his long kicking skill to kick-off a possible scoring chain. Known around the Vic Country camp as the type of bloke that just "shuts his mouth and concentrates on his footy", which is a great personality to have coming into the next level of his sporting career!

Fantasy Prospects

There are question marks about just how defensive his role may be at AFL level and he'll obviously need to put in some good performances in the NEAFL to be considered for an upgrade. He's one to keep an eye on throughout the season.
