the step up from 14-18 to 9-13 is big enough as it is but the next step to inside the 8 is huge. Look at teams as good as North, Carlton and even Adelaide this year. Good teams but still not good enough to make the top 1-8. Gold Coast are still 3-4 years off finals and GWS are 4-5

Crows went from bottom 4ish in 2011 to top 4 in 2012, the Eagles from last to 5th...

The Suns will push for the finals in 2014, 2015 is very likely IMO
I fully agree with Os here.

Crows and Eagles already had good lists....GWS and GC are full of kids. There's a difference

Not with a young list though.
Crows made finals in 2009 and 11th in 2010.
Eagles were 11th in 2009 and had a million injuries in 2010.

The jump from the 2nd tier to 1st tier with a young list is massive.

Hawks 07/08 ;)

Just proving my point... 2006 Hawks finished 11th, 2005 they were 14th, 2004 16th. 3 years worth of building with 2 years in the 2nd tier. They had also been 9th in 2003 and 10th in 2002.

Your assumptions hold for most cases Rico, but the Suns can't have the same assumptions as they have the best talent and an AFL funded war-chest.

You could still be right, but the 18 year old stars are fast turning into 22 year olds starting there prime

Ricochet

Agree with you there mate. I was just trying to point out it is such a large jump from 4 wins to 8 wins in one year and to then go from 8 wins to 12-14 wins in the next 1 or 2 years with guys that haven't played that much footy.

the quality of the kids in gc/ gws are unprecedented, and can't really be compared to other teams.

really, the youth is what makes that leap so possible- for younger players, there's more room to quickly improve.

Ziplock

Ftr, I reckon giants could even push for the 8 this year, if we can nab didak, chappy and cross :P

Ha yeh right. A quarter of this "unprecedented" talent will be at other clubs when GWS challenge for the 8.

OK boys we will see.

I see where you're coming from now Rico but I'd say Gold Coast are 2-3 at most

And who out of Hawthorn, Freo, Geelong, Sydney, North, Essendon, Collingwood,  Carlton,  Port, Richmond,  Adelaide, West Coast are GWS gonna finish higher than? They need to be higher then at least 5 of them ;)

GWS are a 2-4 years off still, the reason GC can challenge is they have the best player in the league to lead the way whereas Gws best player is Ward.

Ziplock

I say push, so I mean like 9th or so... just enough to make people sweat.

ftr

Geelong, Wce, adelaide, port

:P

"BREAKING

Heath Shaw has officially informed Collingwood that he wants a trade to GWS, a deal which is reported to be a five-year contract at $700,000 a year.

Collingwood and GWS have agreed to terms which will see Taylor Adams become a Magpie, and Shaw a Giant plus an exchange of draft picks.

A win/win for both clubs.
