Another scandal has erupted from Mad Monday after a Brisbane Lions player was accused of abusing and assaulting a man in a wheelchair while he was waiting for a taxi.

Robert Partridge made a complaint to the Indooroopilly Criminal Investigation Branch and alleged the player tipped him out of his wheelchair while waiting for a maxi-taxi in Toowoong, News Limited reported

Partridge claimed he was approached by a group of men when the AFL player allegedly said: "a wheelchair retard, you beauty."

The group of men then allegedly tipped Partridge out of his wheelchair before taking the taxi the disabled man had been waiting for.

When Partridge protested, the allegedly drunk men threw food at him and left him lying on the ground.

Brissie statement:

The Brisbane Lions are aware of serious allegations made against one of its players regarding an alleged incident on Sunday night.

The Club has launched an immediate investigation into the matter as it had not previously been made aware of the allegations.

The Club will make further comment once it is in a position to do so.

Received a tweet from the Club stating they are investigating this matter and will comment further when more facts are known as they have only been advised today.

Not defending the player but why when these incidents occur do not the grieved persons contact the club as well so they are aware. Incident occurred on Sunday Night and club only found out via media sources this morning.

Does not look good though and as I have said in previous threads when will players learn they are under public scrutiny at all times.

That would surprise me if that was the case. Although I guess our opinon of players is based upon what we see of them on the field.

Not an ideal time for this to surface with Best and Fairest tonight,

Rich still not named officially so will wait for full announcements. Again I ask why wait till now to make allegations for something that happened on Sunday Night. There more than likely is another side to the story as well as complainant has already said was not tipped out of chair.  With 8 players in the party it is quite possible maxi taxi was their cab as well and not complainant.

Not defending players here either but just waiting for full facts to emerge.

Agree and this quote from the article suggests maybe Rich

"A keen sports fan, Mr Partridge said he had watched numerous AFL games and the alleged player involved was pretty distinctive."

So that statement removes quite a few of the players Moloney, McGrath and Clay Beams would be the only other players you would class as distinctive.

Radio station reporting that 2 players have admitted going out with the boys on Sunday night but did not witness an incident with a wheel chair.

Didn't realise Fevola was still referred to as "a player"
