Looks like we will lose on this trade. I'm really hoping that if Longer does go, we get a good deal for him. Would be even better if he stays now, I think Leppa would play him in a bit of a different role.

Pick 28 for Docherty, what? He is worth far more than that.

your not trading him for what he is worth you are trading him to get something rather than nothing.

I'll say it again, clubs will be reluctant to trade for a player who wants to be somewhere else, if they're out of contract and able to walk. Yes, wbd could pick him up again in the draft, but then they have to go and develop a player who could end up just wanting to walk out again...

Or he could join the dogs and love it. Abit like players joining GWS/Gold Coast (Ward/Ablett) who are happy with where they are now.

Mailman the 2nd

Except players at GWS and GC choose to be there......

There are close to no instances in the last 10 years of players being traded to a different club than they named. They either stay, delist themselves or get there

Vinny

Yeah exactly, if he doesn't want to be there why should he go..he will just end up leaving eventually. You can't compare this to Ward and Ablett, those guys were offered and willingly left. In this situation, Docherty wants to go to the Blues and that's where he should go.

they got offered reeeeeeallly good money for that.

to be fair mailman, there are a couple of cases... but most of them are delisted players who were going to be picked up by a club, and were on like no money.

Vinny

Yeah money was what it took for them. Docherty it's more about going back home and going somewhere that he will enjoy playing footy at and get plenty of opportunity.

Yeah definitely it changes when the player is fairly small-league or barely paid, but these sort of discussions never involve those kinds of deals

Nige

News starting to filter through from Brisbane that they will not accept Carlton's offer of pick 31 or 32 and may now force Docherty to the mercy of the draft.

Toga

Richmond have a pick one higher in the draft >:D
