Veteran Richmond midfielder Shane Tuck has announced his retirement from AFL football.

The 31 year-old told team mates today of his decision to hang up his boots at the completion of the 2013 season.

Tuck has played 171 games and kicked 72 goals, in 10 hard working, valuable seasons with the Tigers.

As sad as I am about this, I feel it is probably in the best interest of both him and the club. :)

This means guys like Biscuits will get more of a run now. ;D

I think this also means Sam Lonergan may be retained on the rookie list for another year though. >:(

Tuck was awesome last year and congratulations on a wonderful career 8)
As Nigey said it was probably the best outcome for both parties.
He's still a star though and one of my favourites :)

While I called this weeks ago, it still makes me sad - he gave his best effort year in year out at the club, congratulations on a great career mate.

Probably a good time to call it quits though, guys like Vlastuin & Arnot coming through have kind of taken over his position in the side, so good that he hangs up his boots while he's still ahead. :)

Was a player who really got the best out of himself.

As you guys said, was an inevitable decision with the youngsters coming through at the Tiges.

Well yeah, Biscuits injured, Lonergan's a hack who is purely on our list as last resort so Tucky's the man.

I'm so gutted we couldn't win a final for him. I was happy that he was able to come on fairly early to play most of the game though (sadly at Conc's expense :(). Congrats again on a solid career Tucky! 8)
