There isn't one, it's a variant.

However, this difference is, I always use it in context because it means "laugh out loud".

I've seen people use it in proper sentences like it's actually a word in itself.  :o

Vinny

I think they are both stupid, haha.

ATAR scores grind my gears
Guessing didn't go too well? :(.
Not real well. Good enough to get into my first preference but still a little disappointed. It's just an annoying system. People (including myself) are letting themselves be defined by a number. It's often not really adequate reward for the effort you've put in all year.

right now having seen my score I'm thinking it's a very good system  :P. Hopefully will get into first preference too. I've got plenty of mates who were a bit disappointed by their scores, but as long as you can get into a course you want who cares. It becomes irrelevant even to those who got 99.95 as soon as uni starts.

For the lads who have just received ATARs, take it from me... A guy who received 61.45 as their ATAR.

It doesn't matter if you don't get the ATAR you wanted or whatever, when it comes to the end of first year (of Uni), you'll realise the score you got counts for bugger all.  :P

Pretty much what was said above, got your first preference so should be more than thrilled :D. When you enter uni, Atar scores mean jack, as pretty much start fresh there! I know some who got a tad depressed when they got their score, but once uni started they forgot about it completely.

I was cut.  :P

I think I spent the first 3 months hating my choice of Uni than I did hating the ATAR.  :P

Vinny

Good luck to everyone who is getting their ATAR, it's not the end of the world ;)

Justin Bieber

Bahahahaha, could have tried something different at a uni you liked, then transfer into the course you wanted if you studied hard.

This is why you aim low, so when you "over-achieve" you feel happy :P.

That's exactly what I do.

I've been told off for this by those senior to me.  ::)

Pretty much Nigey, meant to aim high. As low goals or no goals (like me) can help lead to depression, which is worse...

My Chumps

Cheers guys. I'm not too disheartened, just a little disappointed. The more I think about it though the more I realise it doesn't really matter, it's just about that first preference.

I really don't get it though. Can someone explain my English mark? I thought it was my strongest subject but ended up getting my worst mark in it. I got:

Unit 3 SAC's: A
Unit 4 SAC's: B+
Exam: B (butchered the last section in the exam, I know it)

And still only got a 32  :-[

Like what the hell. If C is the average then C = 30. So how does getting three marks well above the average only leave me with a mark two above it?

Because your SAC marks aren't marked by the exam markers, they're marked by your teachers.
This is my understanding of it:
In one school they could mark really harshly. So everyone there gets C's or lower. Then in the exam, all those people get an A. VCAA will be all like, "oh hey, these guys are actually good, were just marked harshly, let's raise their score"

Then in another school, everyone could be getting A's. And in the exam, no-one gets above a C+, and VCAA think, "these people weren't marked harshly enough at their school, we'll bring their study score down a bit"

I don't know how accurate that is, but that's how I understand it.
