CENTREBET has suspended betting on the Essendon-Richmond game amid a plunge that has seen the club's VFL side into $15 for the premiership.

Essendon has been booted from the AFL finals but it is believed 21 senior-listed players are eligible for VFL finals.

It means they will contend against Geelong's dominant VFL side for the flag, with plenty of eligible players keen to continue in the VFL side given the feel-good vibes it would create

Centrebet said the VFL side was in from $41, with betting not reopening on the Richmond-Essendon game until the firm gets a better indication of what side the Bombers will select.

Centrebet media manager Michael Felgate said the VFL side would now be real contenders for the premiership.

"It is intriguing that as soon as the VFL side was ruled eligible the punters rallied,'' he said.

"$41 into $15 indicates that a few players who wouldn't normally play VFL will be lining up over the finals series.''

Essendon's VFL side will take on Werribee at North Port Oval on Sunday.

Betting in the St Kilda-Fremantle match has also been suspended after a plunge caused by rumours the Dockers would rest a host of players.

The Saints were backed from $6 into $3.80 in recent days by informed punters, with betting turned off until tomorrow.

St Kilda will farewell Stephen Milne, Jason Blake and most likely Justin Koschitzke, but the Dockers could rest players as they did at this time last year.

Fremantle would have to hope Brisbane beat Geelong at Simonds Stadium to nap second spot, so might decide that is unlikely to occur.

They could welcome back Clancee Pearce (calf) and ruckman Aaron Sandilands (fractured cheekbone) from injury, but Michael Walters (knee) and Nick Suban (hamstring) will miss the match.

Even with rested players you'd think freo should still get up. Crazy punters.

Freo have history of this albeit with a different coach. In 2010 (i think it was that year) in the last round of the home and away season, they played hawthorn but were already assured of finals and were playing for nothing. They rested a huge number of their best players, something like 9, and subsequently were thrashed by the hawks. In week one of finals they played hawthorn again and proceeded to win comfortably lol, so I guess they'd say it worked.

I think Barlow could be due for a rest, he's played every game this season. He's the only fantasy relevant one I can think of right now, actually maybe mayne, mundy and michael johnson could do with a spell too.

Hope not, but seemingly very likely.

Maybe Creepy Crowley gets rested that'd be nice

Massive risk to trade Barlow on speculation. If he's named you'd have to back him in

LF

Just heard on 6pr that Balla and Hill might also be out
no wonder they suspended the betting

CFC 1979

only sore players won't play

why would freo give up a chance for a home final

i've heard IBBO, WALTERS, MCPHARLLIN and possibly 911
