Just heard on radio that they will NOT play finals, have been stripped of 1st and 2nd round 2014 draft picks and fined $2 million.

I think for everyone concerned it's best to sort it out before this coming finals series. If it had not been resolved by then and dragged onto the next season, there is a fair chance that the bombers would have been stripped off all points for the 2014 year - that is play for no points the whole year a la storm in the nrl. As least this way they get a fresh start next year.

EDIT: Haven't seen this info as if a final decision has been made on any other sources yet, so it may not be true. There's a strong likelihood it is though.

It's great that we know what the sanctions are...what are we being charged with exactly? Anyone know..?

ummm bad record keeping i think
someone filed the stuff starting with "R" under B instead
in these days over such professionalism society cannot tolerate such a mistake
ofc we tried the defence of it is an easy mistake to make since well rub the bottom part of a B and it is an R
but they were having none of it

(LOL as a bombers supporter and also a person who loves his footy i among others am sick to death of it and actually never thought i'd get to the point i am at but i didn't even say 1 word to my boss today....they ended up saying you haven't even said anything yet my boss being a blues supporter and all i simply shrugged and said Carlton kicked straight we would of lost....usually wouldn't let that get in the way of a good old fashioned rub salt in wounds but simply metal burnt out so if i don;t make a joke about i will go nuts and probably rage at everyone instead)

Fair enough then.

Thought it was going to be bringing the game into disrepute, and I was ready to rant. :P

Draft picks?
If we haven't lost those it's a fairly soft punishment honestly...

Pending ASADA bans we could recover from this in the next 6 months.

So no sanctions for the players? Or is that ongoing...?

BB67th

ASADA investigation is ongoing into players. Players can still be charged with drug charges later when ASADA finishes its investigation.

AFL Commission has passed down their judgement so no further punishment coming from them.

Simon Goodwin to coach this weekend.

Ringo

Hird is eligible to coach next years finals series as 12 months is back dated till 25th August.

Essendon can trade picks so not overly effected there and they get a draft pick at end of Round 1 next years,

Simon Godwin to coach Bombers this week.

Rusty00

Ed just said on AFL 360 that Hird's suspension is 12 months from today meaning he could coach Essendon in next years finals if they make it.

Interesting to see what the club would if that scenario unfolded.

BB67th

For the record, I believe these penalties are not harsh enough. Let's not forget that in 2011, Essendon assistant Dean Wallis was suspended for 14 rounds and fined $7,500 for placing a small bet for a friend on an AFL game.

Compare that to this, not going to go into detail for all that happened, and we have the head coach out of the game for only 12 months and Corcoran is only really suspended for 4 months and will be back for round 1 next year.

Comparing those 2 penalties, they do not stack up.

Moving on though, interesting to hear what Little will say now.
