Hey Ringo is it mainly the handling of Voss' departure that has the current Board under siege or has there been other issues bubbling away as well?

Ringo

Mainly the Handling of the Voss sacking especially when it has been revealed there was no one signed or about to be signed to take over. Will be interesting to see what our final home crowd figure is this week as only just over 13000 turned up last week but admittedly was GWS who were also our lowest crowd last year.

A fair majority of members imo wanted Voss to go but it was the way it was handled has got fans off side. And to announce it on the day of the Gala Ball and fundraiser really upset a lot of members who did not really enjoy the night as one should have.

"The next regular opportunity for this will be at the Club's Annual General Meeting to be held in December, at which, Directors Paul Williams and Mick Power are seeking re-election."

From the official statement from the Chairman. Can forsee a request coming for an extraordinary meeting given the strength and momentum behind the proposed ticket which includes some Fitzroy influence as well.

Johnson should step down. Handled the Voss sacking terribly, and Power and Williams will be able to run the club better. Also I feel that Matthews would be an invaluable addition. I wouldn't be surprised if a new board changes Paul Roos' mind about whether or not he wants to coach next year.

Ringo

Agree BB but we can not afford to wait till December.

Spinking

Just looking at those potential names - with the exception of Roos that is a very weak field.

Personally think they shouldn't have gone with Voss in the first place, and probably should have given him the bullet 2 years ago - but it seems crazy that they would move him on now when he had got them showing a bit.

Initially thought they must have stitched up a deal with Roos, but looks like they are going to get stuck with an inexperienced ex player, or another team's dumped, has-been coach  ::)

That's for sure. What would it take to call an emergency meeting before then? From his press conference today, Johnson has no plans of moving on any time before he has to.

Suspect the constitution is being looked at by a number of members to ascertain requirements.  My reading is that nothing can happen till at least 21 days after intention to call a meeting.

For those members that wish to join to push for the Special meeting go to this site.

http://thelionsroar.net/

"The club's constitution provides a mechanism for members with voting rights to seek a speedier resolution to this crisis in the form of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). If a request for such a meeting is lodged with the written support of 5% of all members with voting rights, the club must process the request within 21 days and then set a date for the EGM within 2 months.

It is important to note that pledging your vote to call for an EGM does not constitute a vote or endorsement for either the current board or any opposing ticket. Voting for particular directors or tickets would occur as a separate process at the EGM."

Whether you agree with what is going on or not and if you are a member it is important that you complete the details required to register with the LionsRoar website as they are just collecting the votes to ensure there is sufficient numbers obtained to get the EGM under way.  We need something like 1200 signatures to call the EGM.

Believe we need this as we can not afford to allow this to drag on till December.

Seems agreement has been reached with all directors for the Coach Selection Committee to commence work despite boardroom instability.
"The process includes the appointment of a subcommittee, to be chaired by Dean Warren, the Lions General Manager   Football Operations.

The other members of the subcommittee are Lions CEO, Malcolm Holmes, Lions Physical Performance Manager and retired Adelaide Crows star, Brett Burton, and independent panel members, former Lions Premiership winning coach, Leigh Matthews, AFL Coaching Director, Peter Schwab, and AFL CoachesAssociation Operations Manager, Paul Armstrong. Armstrong will sit on the panel as a non-voting member."

Let's hope the Panel gets it right.

Rusty00

Hey Ringo and others.

Do you think it's odd that Leigh Matthews is on one hand part of the panel to select the new coach, yet on the other hand part of a push to oust the current board?

Seems odd to me that the current board would allow him to be on that selection panel  ???

Rusty This statement from the Chairman released at 11:00am today may put a few things into perspective in relation to the issue,

Whilst the Board battles continue for the sake of the club and obtaining the best coach available they have put aside this aspect to get the best committee to select the coach going forward as per the Statement.

Personally I have found Angus Johnson to be one of the most arrogant people I have ever met on the couple of discussions i have had with him about improvement for members but will not go into details. His predecessor Tom Kelly was very approachable and always listened to what you had to say.

I disagree with some of the things in the statement myself in that most members like me are not unhappy with the Voss sacking or the missing of Paul Roos but the way it was handled and announced. Common talk among members is if we did not have Roos tied up why not wait till end of season to announce? Bear in mind decision was also announced on what was one of members biggest fundraising events of the year The members Ball and auctions which also did not go down well with members.

Agree there are some members who think Voss should have continued given the improved showing but do not think they would be in the majority.

Nige

A few of the afl.com.au guys think Adam Simpson may get the gig. Has his name been in contention at all so far as you know, Ringo (or any other Lions fans)?
