Thought I would start a thread to discuss the Brisbane Coaching Issue especially after some of the discussion at the Ground on Saturday Night.
There was some conjecture that Voss resigned but that is hard to believe given he fronted a press conference earlier in the day. Fair enough he did not take up the option to continue coaching till seasons end.
The Board must be really held accountable for making the announcement public prior to the end of the season especially when they had not tied up a replacement, Both Roos and Harvey have now declared they are not interested so we will be starting from scratch. To add to the Board decision Leigh Matthews has openly said he is now not interested in a seat on the Board given the way the Voss sacking was handled.
Most members share the same sentiment as I do very angry at the Board and the way it was handled but agreed Voss is not the coach to now take to next level and had to be replaced despite the better performances. Some of Voss's selection processes this year added to this view. One that I will hone in on is why he did not persevere with developing the Berger/Longer ruck combo. Was in place for 2 weeks when Berger returned from injury and was working well with Berger offering an alternative to Brown up front.
Question is now who will coach Brisbane.
Despite their denials Roos and Harvey are the bookies favourites still.
Bookies Odds
Paul Roos $1.45
Mark Harvey $7.00
Rodney Eade $10.00 (would not like this one)
Justin Leppitsch $10.00
Nigel Lappin $10.00
Adrian Fletcher $11.00
Alan Richardson $12.00
Mark Williams $12.00
Brett Ratten $15.00
Peter Sumich $15.00
Dean Laidley $15.00 (hope not)
Kevin Sheedy $34.00 (This may fit in with the stated intention to groom a coach for 2 years and Sheedy finishes at GWS this year. But would his pride allow him to coach the Lions given the Bombers/Lions rivalry early)
John Worsfold also mentioned as a possible coach but not in the markets at present.
My preferences in order would be Roos, Williams, Worsfold, Harvey

Is one of the reasons he was sacked before the end of the season to try and convince some players to remain with the club? There had been rumours in recent weeks about a few players wanting a trade out (Longer, Karnezis, Docherty, etc.)

Is it just a coincidence that Hanley has re-signed now that Voss is gone?

Ringo

Docherty and Longer were the only ones that may have been influenced by the decision - Karnezis has indicated he wants to return home and a trade at end of season so credit to Voss for not playing him after this was revealed.

Hanley always intended to remain at Brisbane and as he says was coincidence that it occurred after Voss's resignation. Given that he was given a 5 year contract suspect length of contract may have been the sticking point preventing earlier announcements. You very rarely see a five year contract.

Roo's has said that he doesnt want to coach until his kids have finished High School. I know he has a kid in year 12 but i dont know if its the youngest or eldest

If Brisbane put someone in like lappin or leppitch i'll be annoyed. to me i'll only accept a coach who has experience in the top flight otherwise it was pointless sacking voss

What about Josh Drummond? He's been at North this year, hasn't he? I agree Strikes. Don't see the poin in sacking Voss to bring in someone even less experience.

Agree would be a pointless exercise otherwise.

Agree with these comments precisely.  The only coach outside the 4 that I mentioned who may be worth it would be Brad Scott if he were to leave North but I can not see that.

Or even Chris Scott. Can't see him moving from Geelong though.

T Dog

Chris Johnson on anyones' radar ?

Why don't you want Eade Ringo?

Ringo

Just Personal mate do not really rate him as highly as the others.  Do not see him as a development coaching mentor he is similar to Matthews in that he wants total control (a control freak)

Capper

Eade can make a decent list though Ringo as he put most of the Sydney list together before Roos took over.

Capper

It looks like the Brisbane board is now split 3 v 3 and Matthews is leading a group to try and get Roos to coach

QuoteTHE Brisbane Lions board has been split by a powerful faction, led by Leigh Matthews, who aim to topple under-siege chairman Angus Johnson.

Directors Paul Williams, Mick Power and Matthews are running a ticket to take control of the embattled club and have vowed to make a fresh approach to Swans 2005 premiership coach Paul Roos.

Williams and Power this morning called on Johnson and fellow directors Linda Nash and Cameron Milner to stand down.

The trio refused and the issue looks headed for an emergency general meeting.

Ringo

This just confirms the rumours I heard on Monday about a possible Board overturn in the wake of the decision so not surprised.

Think Brisbane have a decent enough list apart from a Key Forward so need a coach to take to the next level Tabs.
