Carnage: Change approach or Rules?

(Apologies if this should be in DT Strategy)

Things have changed this year and one discussion topic could be, on reflection, is DT any better, is it worse (teams with 4 POD's, come on!)?

Regardless, given the carnage this week, in particular in the back line (and I am sure teams will rest some other Premo's) a few of us will be faced with a donut this week... but wasn't 2 trades a week supposed to avoid all this?

So I ask...

Did I not manage my team properly, or should we request a minor change?

I propose that we be able to buy trades.

Think about it, even if it is only in the finals, the ability to buy a trade will keep you competitive and not hamstrung for the matches you have been working hard for all year.  It would remove one 'significant' element of luck from the game that is frustrating, players rested, injured or suspended in the finals.

Setting the price at say $100k will atleast give you an opportunity to get a player into your team to give you something rather than a donut to one of your few POD players in a final.

Thoughts?

Personally I don't like the idea of buying trades. Whilst players being rested, injured or suspended is frustrating, it is part of the game. The game shouldn't be made too easy  ;)

i think you should have a limited amount of trades (ie 30)
but then a wildcard round, where you can activate it and make as many trades as you want (ideal for a round like this where i could do with 5)

of course, it can make it too gimmicky
can also throw an element of surprise in there, make mass changes and BE hunt in an earlier round, or save it for later (finals) when your team is decimated by injuries

I agree with having limited trades. We all expect carnage late in the year so need to plan for it. It does require an element of luck but that's the game.

The only thing I would like to see changed is the bye rounds. Start the season head to head from round one and have those "off rounds" in the middle when there are byes.

With all the trades this year, players who have played well should be pleased with all the carnage, as they should have decent cover. At least more so than those teams who've simply sideways traded their way through the season, picking up every flavour of the month and then dumping them when they spud it up.

If you've played smart, you should have at least one premo sitting on the bench in every line (if not more) meaning that this carnage is somewhat mitigated. Compared to a team who has two rookies, who probably aren't playing this week either (i.e. Clisby & Thurlow are two that I've seen still on benches), the good players are in a much greater advantage, and therefore should welcome mass carnage as it creates PODs out of necessity.

I'm looking forward to this week as I feel like I have sufficient cover on all lines, and hope to take advantage of that over those who are perhaps a bit less prepared.

i guess you're right there jamfrank
too often i've jumped on someone (DEFs especially) and then jumped off again after poor performances or BE chasing (Ellis, Ibbotson, Hartlett to name a few)
and then jumping on some people despite buggering up my bye-plans (Stanton for his 50odd, which completely flowered my rd13)

my cover isn't that bad (Grimes, TMitchell - had planned to upgrade but injuries have permitted otherwise, Bellchambers and Staker - had also planned to upgrade this round)

oh well, noob moves of a second year DTer

Back to less trades..... This is too easy, weaker players can just copy your team and wind up with the same team. And ive actually undone myself trying to pick pod's this year. Unfortunately my defence is the one area without premo backup but it doesn't matter because I can just sideways trade anyway. I will be hoping for Midfeild carnage this week to gain an advantage ;) A few people I know won't be playing dreamteam next season unless this insane amount of trades disappears.
Paying for trades? No Way! I like a challenge and players get injured..... That's the brutal game they play.

This is true. Pretty shower when you jump on early to a smoky, then two weeks later everyone in the comp has him.

44 trades has just meant more sideways trading. People have tried to catch the right waves and ended up wasting trades. BUT, because everyone has two trades a week, use or lose them, you simply had to take this approach to stay competitive.
There needs to be reward for those who are canny enough to hold off on trading so they can fix up injuries later. 44 trades use them or lose them is crap IMO
