"But the 34-year-old pulled up sore from his first senior game in seven weeks, and is now concerned that his groin injury might seriously affect his playing future."

After a fantastic game on Saturday Night Black has pulled up sore and fears he could be suffering from osteitis pubis which may prematurely end his season. Hope this is not the case but if it is I can say I witnessed his last game among the disappointing crowd numbers of 13855 on Saturday Night. Not the ideal way for the champ to bow out.

On a more encouraging sign for Lions fans Pearce Hanley is set to announce a five year deal this week completing the jig saw of retentions.

Black has been just about my favourite non-Collingwood player for years, sad to see him ago if true

Hawka

Absolute champ, love him
Theres no doubt if he feels fine he could go one more year though

Capper

NOOOO!!!!

Surely he will be named this week and might be the red vest candidate. Needs to play one more and be chaired off like the champion he is

Will now be difficult:

Four MRP charges from Rd 21 - Hamish Hartlett can accept two weeks, Simon Black one week. Dean Cox and Scott Selwood can accept reprimands.

Not sure what the charge is as I did not see anything untoward so will await the full announcement. Must be serious if Cox and Selwood can get reprimands for their actions.

Edit: Simon Black can accept 1 game, striking C Ward. Has a 93.75 points carry over from umpire contact in 2009 which probably effected the decision compared to Selwood and Cox but still a bit rough.

This would be a very unfortunate way to end career if it is.

mmm, not a fan of carry over charges for incidental umpire contact...

Vinny

I will be devastated if Black is done :(

Easily one of my most liked players outside Carlton. He is simply a champion and would suck for it to end like this.

Come on Blacky!

I didn't realise this was the case, I thought it was a fine only for umpire contact.

That is so bullshower if that's the case. >:(

So did I, I can't believe there would be carry over points for that. The whole MRP system needs a big overhaul at the end of the year. Hopefully Mark Evans realises this.

Did not really effect outcome as penalty was based on no previous good or bad record. Can not work out how you get the good record one would gave thought 4 years without a charge would be a good record. Not sure what the criteria is for good record. Blacks last 2 MRP were both contact with umpire in 2009 and 2007 both incurring fines and prior to that a reprimand for striking in 2007. Last suspension was for striking in 2004.

I think that 5 years with no charge constitutes a good record.

It wouldn't be great if it ended like this for him, he's had a fantastic career and deserves a proper send off.

Ringo

Heard an interview with Blackie last night and prior to the injury flaring again was considering playing on next year as well.  So do hope that we have a chance to farewell the champ in an appropriate manner.

Grazz

Great player, wonderful career. Hoping it isn't the end for him.
