Karnezis keen to leave Lions at season's end

PATRICK Karnezis has told the Brisbane Lions he wants to head home to Victoria at the end of this season, having failed to overcome the homesickness that has plagued him in his three years at the club.

AFL.com.au understands Karnezis, 21, recently told the Lions he had decided to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this season.

This probably isn't too much of a surprise to anyone. I wonder if he'll nominate any clubs or who will show interest. I do remember him being briefly linked to the Tiges last year.

These are the 2 key paragraphs from the article regarding clubs of choice and what happens if trade can not be reached.

"It is understood several Victorian clubs including Collingwood are circling the No. 25 pick in the 2010 draft, but the Lions will be looking to drive a hard bargain at the trade table.

In the event that one of Karnezis' suitors cannot agree to a trade with the Lions, the half-forward will have to enter the national or pre-season draft and hope he gets through to his preferred club."

It is to be hoped that we get reasonable return from this trade, No real surprise as he wanted to be traded home last year but Lions could not reach a trade for him but think one should be done this year. For his sake I hope suitable trade can be arranged as I think he can be an asset to a club.

Will be the first one we have lost to homesickness for a while but this is probably understandable given the Greek heritage and their commitment to family.

Dont know why he hasnt got any time in the Lions team this year? NEAFL stats look pretty respectable.

Can't blame him for wanting to go. Someone should grab him. It will be interested to see if he plays in the midfield not at FF

Yeah, I knew about this a while ago. My Aunty is also his Aunty (no relation between me and him though). Apparently quite a while ago he said he was definitely leaving Brisbane at the end of the year, and that's been why Voss hasn't played him. Only going by what cousins have said, so not 100% on that.
