As we are nearing the end of the season thought I would start this thread for your thoughts on who we should trade, de-list and possible retirements.

Retirements:
Simon Black

Trade: Suggestions:
Polec, Karnezis, Polkinghorne, Banfield

McGrath and McKeever are 2 I would consider de-listing.

Maguire is playing well enough for a years extension,

McGrath could be used in a trade. heard he wanted to go back home. whether the WA teams take him is another thing

Have not been able to get the link to the article in todays Courier Mail but there are some concerns in it.

1. Longer is out of contract and seeking a return back to Melbourne - GWS and Hawks already circling. Another one of Voss's errors in not playing dual ruckmen Berger and Longer may see him depart. Whilst Longer is not a resting forward surely he can be used of the bench with Berger resting.
2. Both Polkinghorne and Karnezis will be requesting trades at the end of the season. This is not unexpected though.
3. Aaron Cornelius is also still unsigned.

Longer and Polec are Top 10 draft picks and will add to Mitch Clark, Lachie Henderson and Jared Brennan as Top 10 draft picks lost in the last 5 years, Something going wrong with our retention and development. Hope this is also looked at when Voss's contract is up for renewal.

Also we are still waiting for Hanleys signature and hopefully that will be forthcoming.

Well at least we won't have to delist anyone  :-X

With Longer leaving, Sam should get more games :) Polkinghorn wanting to leave surprises me tbh. Would he get games anywhere else?

Nige

I like Polka, hope he does get picked up by someone else should he request a trade.

Only problem is that Sam is really bad.

he didn't look to flash in his 2 matches

Not fussed at all on our ruck back up if Longer goes - Michael haas been found wanting and is not really doing a lot in the 2's, Stefan martin may be good in short term but not long term and McKeever has been used as well in 2's but his disposal is sh.
Hope we do all we can to retain as I think he is a required player for our development.

Good to see you finally got rid of Voss. Took you long enough

Rookie List
Callum Bartlett
Once again injury has derailed the season of the rugged midfielder. After knee reconstructions wiped out much of his three years on the senior list, the 22-year-old has been hampered by a fractured cheekbone and shoulder injury this season. Bartlett has shown some exciting form in the twos with his ball-winning and improving pace, but it's going to be tough for him to get another opportunity at the Lions with their plethora of young midfielders.
Jordon Bourke
The first-year key position defender from the Gold Coast has been solid in the reserves. Played a majority of the season at centre half-back - and was swung forward last week - and with the Lions still on the hunt for key talls, should get another year or two to develop.
Nick Hayes
Another first-year rookie to impress, South Australian Hayes has lots to like. Well regarded at the club after a good first half of the year in the twos, the 19-year-old is a clever, hard-working midfielder who has a nose for the goals. A foot injury hampered the back half of his season, but will get another chance.
Richard Newell
Undoubtedly the club's best runner at full fitness, Newell has had a solid second season, playing almost every game in the twos. Has played on a wing and half-forward for much of the year. Big decision on whether to give him another season.
Stephen Wrigley
The rebounding defender's second year has been destroyed by injury. Wrigley ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during the pre-season and has spent all year in rehabilitation. With the continued development of Mitch Golby, Elliot Yeo and Ryan Harwood in his position, it's going to be tough for the unlucky Wrigley to get another chance.
Sam Michael
One of the club's most physically gifted athletes, the versatile Michael got his first taste of senior action this season. At 199cm and 98kg, the 20-year-old is one of the biggest at the club, but also one of its best runners. Has played both ends of the ground in the reserves and got two games at senior level. Like Bourke, should be retained as the Lions continue to hunt for tall players.

Toga

I would've though the Tiges might show a bit of interest in Billy Longer seeing as O-Steph is probably just about done after this year.

Who do you think will be interested in Karnezis?

Ringo

Rumour has it Pies have shown some interest in Karnezis.
Dependent on who new coach is Longer may stay and I hope this is the case as a Berger/Longer combo would be great for us.

Nige

I think a lot of Victorian clubs might be interested in Karnezis, clearly has talent, just a matter of where he'll slot in to whichever team picks him up.

Polka's another one that I think should attract interest, he can play and somehow found himself on the outer after starting the season reasonably well.
