Lol ironic. The whole things been a fiasco from the get go. Can't help but feel the whole process has been on a "Go Slow Approach" from the get go to avoid as much disruption to the 2013 comp as possible with faint regard for people's health and well being. The AFL's agenda was this and I feel they have achieved it. Once Essendon are charged they have two weeks I think to contest the charges/respond etc and around that time we are on the verge of finals. Job accomplished.

UPDATE: AFL.com.au's Damian Barrett said the announcement has been delayed because it has now gone to a negotiated outcome between the Bombers and the AFL (or more specifically, their lawyers) rather than charges and a penalty to come later.

This would mean lawyers of both sides are heavily involved. Damo doesn't expect to see a resolution today.

AFL ‏@AFL 2m

The AFL has charged Essendon FC, James Hird, Bruce Reid, Danny Corcoran and Mark Thompson in relation to 2011/12 supplements program.

AFL ‏@AFL 2m

All are charged with engaging in conduct unbecoming or likely to prejudice interests or reputation of AFL or to bring game into disrepute.

Charges will heard on 26/8/12.

Players are in the clear at the present time with no infraction notices to be issued

Interesting to see what WADA says now.

I think that it is not over with the players. Hird, Thompson, Corcoran, Reid and the club have been charged and will all be punished later this month.

In my view it looks like the players will get off on the drug charges when ASADA's investigation is complete, however WADA still says it is a banned substance. I can see WADA appealing ASADA's decision and this all ending up in the courts for a long time.

Ringo

It is still an open investigation and the door is left open for further charges if further information comes to hand.

Essendon officials are charged under Rule 1.6 bringing the game into disrepute.
