Also please no Buddy. Getting Tippett already threw Morton and White out the door (not that unhappy) and left Membrey with no games.

Getting Buddy is going to destroy several potential future clubmen.

Really?? You would prefer to keep Membrey and White instead of Tippett and Franklin?? WTF?

IMO setting the club up for the next 5 years title shots is more important. Our midfield will be one of the best in the comp each season over the next 4-5years, why not exploit that with two of the best fwds to take advantage of it?

Let me set it straight, I'd much rather have strictly better forwards in the team, that goes without saying.

However, if the hypothetical came up and Reid, White and Membrey all ended up leaving the club to make way for Franklin, what kind of message does that send to all the younger players.

Sydney has been all about building its own players. The whole entire midfield has been built from the ground up basically. You sign a 5 year contract onto Reid, only to bring in some big name forward and basically kick him out of his job. He's not going not wait for 4 years until Tippett and Franklin run out of steam.

Then what's going to happen to Goodes? Sure he can run a bit in the midfield but then you're taking out Mitchell or Rohan or Jetta. Now you have 2 highly valued players out of a job.

Basically, Getting Franklin means, "Pray you don't get drafted by Sydney in the future, because you'll just get replaced by someone else"

Buddy and Tippz in the same forward line will never work.

I think the idea behind it is similar to Hawthorns structure this year of Franklin roaming forward and Tippett staying back

Yeah, just had a think about it.

I really don't like it though.

Yeah I think Roughead is a bit more mobile than Tippett which really allowed the rotations to work.

I guess we'll see  :-\

That seems a little harsh.

Sydney have a track record of recruiting players to suit their needs. Lockett, Williams, .... , Hall, Mumford, Tippett all were brought to the team on good deals.

We can still develop, but lets be honest, we have put some massive time into White with mediocre returns. Reid is still 2-3years away from being the #1 target and Membrey 3-5 so they can all fit into the same team IMO.

Goodes plays 1-2 years and that then opens another fwd position. LRT is maybe gone or 1 more year.

Think really Tippett plays the second ruck role which removes him as a 100% fwd, so structure isnt an issue IMO

My Chumps

I don't care what we do as long as we keep Reid :(

I would've said Mumford too but he looks certain to leave.

Tim Membrey's a promising young gun and he was a steal at 41(? - I think it was). His career as a Swan may be in jeopardy.

Same with Reid, I think he might have numbered says too.

Still in shock tbh.

Lockett and Hall were a long time ago :P

Mumford was more or less a 4th Ruckman at Geelong behind Mark Blake (let that set in lol) so he was more or less built at Sydney.

I understand where your coming from completely, but I don't think Membrey or Reid signed up to play in 3 years time, when there are many other clubs which would slot them in as the best 22 every week.

The Dogs, Freo, Carlton... just to name a few.

Yeah, I also see what you are saying as well. It wouldnt be the best thing for either Reid or Membrey. But must be the best thing for the  Swans. If Reid and Membrey seek a trade to get more opportunity I still believe that the Swans will get the best deal for the club and long term we will be a stronger team.

just one other issue that hasnt been raised is how much of a coup this is for the "other" money Buddy will bring to the Swans.

#1 Jumper sales already. Arguably the #1 promotable face of the game. Massive $$ for the Swans to help improve the club.

Why would they sit back and let GWS take that away?

Ringo

Brisbane will take Membrey or Reid gladly

Fair enough, Maybe I'm just a really old fashioned 18 year old  :P

The bad press and Eddie will be annoying though

So, do the Giants now keep #1 and get Boyd?  ???
