Interesting Article with Tom Rockliff questioning umpiring in Lions matches, Very interesting and well worth the read but will quote one to show the frustration:

"The Lions were also confused over a final quarter ruling that called for full-back Daniel Merrett to play on after he marked near his defensive goalsquare.

They believed Angus Monfries was within the restricted five-metre area and impeded Merrett's decision-making. A turnover resulted in the only goal of the final term and iced the game for the home team."

Adds more fuel to the argument following the Mitchell free as well. It can be argued that Umpires cost us the game but in fairness Port had more inside 50's and more shots at goal and had they kicked straight game would have been over much earlier.

maybe we need to wear Black and White or Navy Blue to get the rub of the green. (Sorry Pies and Blues supporters but I am calling it as I see it this year as your teams seem to get the majority of 50/50 decisions).

Daniel Merrett went to kick the ball he moved off his mark, It was play on every day of the week.

We were robbed of some free kicks as well. Umpires can't always get it right.

Only quoting the article as an example Noz and yes i am upset over some decisions yesterday. Watched the Merrett incident and Monfries was definitely inside the 5 metres and impeded him so even if he played on should have been 50 according to the rules. -
The basic problem seems to be we can never seem to end in front on the free kick count something that has been going on for 3 seasons. Hence the title are we the Umpires bad boys and they look for frees against us.

VICE-captain Tom Rockliff says the Brisbane Lions might need to start playing for free kicks.

The Lions lost the free kick count 22-11 in the nine-point defeat to Port Adelaide on Sunday
to continue a horrible trend in 2013.

It was the seventh straight match they had lost the count, and 12th of 17 in total.

The Lions have also conceded the most free kicks in the League at 20.9 a match.

It is the second time in three weeks they have raised the issue, after coach Michael Voss
met with umpire's boss Jeff Gieschen following the round 15 win over Gold Coast.

Rockliff said he was puzzled by a number of decisions on Sunday.

He admitted the Lions were "reckless" and needed to address their technique,
but believed there was inconsistency with interpretations.

Just change from the Lions to the Eagles, tha way you get even more free kicks when you are at home

Ringo

Just saying it is even more frustrating at the ground when obvious ones are missed. maybe will get the green this week after the articles.

We definitely get the wrong side of the umpiring every week. Maybe Vossy has a chat to the umpires and we get special treatment like they did with Travis Cloke a few weeks back?
