Why are people not interested in domestic cricket?

Aside from the big bash it is clear that basically no one attends Sheffield Shield cup games or Ryobi (i guess i can understand that one)
I have recently moved to Melbourne from country Victoria and im very much looking forward to going to Tasmania's games against Victoria at the MCG this season or even getting on a train down to the G if im free and watch anyteam play.
I go for Tasmania because my first entrance to state cricket and watching cricket in general was ING cup and Pura cup games as a young kid in Hobart, i wasnt born in Tassie and i only lived there for 2 and a half years but to this day i still love Tasmanian cricket.

Does anyone else go to domestic competitions or are planning to this year? and why or why not?

I'm interested in it, but just don't go out to games. I don't go out for much or anything really though. :P

I love the Big Bash though, I'll probably look to go to a few games this season.

Once i get out of school i'll be attending most SS matches at Adelaide Oval. :) I don't pay much attention to it now, but it is the 2nd best form of cricket in the country.

Another thing, for South Aussies, right now the level below the Redbacks is the A Grade. Have you guys heard of the new premier league format that's coming out, where all these players are split into 4 teams, North, East, South, West? I read somehing about it in the Eastern Courier last week, don't know whether it's a OneDay or a Two Day competition, but it sounds interesting :) It's basically a level between Grade cricket and the RedBacks.

Never attended a SS or Ryobi cup game - watch them on TV, but times are shocking, most are on during the week.

Have gone to many Big Bash games the last two years though even though T20 is my least favourite format.

The Big Bash is just easy to follow though. Well known and successful players, short season/good scheduling + Melbourne games are always on a Saturday night which just means they are easy to get too.

I'd lay more interest if they were on free to air

Lack of interest.

I love cricket and am amazed at people I talk to about it. They don't like it as it is too slow they say. They rather watch sports like Baseball and Basketball played at the top level on the other side of the world when our own game is played domestically to a dismal crowd.

I really think cricket is dying in Australia. It is a boom in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The only thing atm is the 20/20 phenomenon in Jan each year that is holding cricket together.

Ten were rumoured to be wanting to put ryobi cup and some shefifield shield on One HD but they decided not to i think, or maybe they are   :o

because the domestic competition's standards aren't good enough

The way ive read so far is people on FF are interested :)

A few years ago yes, the problem is the pitches are 2 bowling friendly

Apparently Ten will show the Shield final and not even bother with the Riobi Cup unless it is done as a carnival format. I think that they should show both competitions in full on One, I think quite a few people would end up watching it.

And what Hawka said above, the pitches are way too bowler friendly now. Everyone wonders why we have such great fast bowlers and such crap batsman and spinners. It is partly because all the pitches now are made for fast bowlers, nothing at all for spinners any more, and with teams always trying to win a game, a batsman is not allowed to build up a proper innings, a lot of the time they have to go in and are expected to have a SR of 65+ to keep the game moving. They should be 5 days, not 4 imo.

Maybe not on Ten, but of One showed them, I would watch it. That said, looking forward to the BBL on Ten this season.  8)
