It's amazing how test cricket as moved on from 6 bats, 1 keeper and 4 bowlers. Now every bowler needs to be able to bat, otherwise there's 50-100 runs gone. And if there's no 5th bowler, there's no variety. Also with the progession in keepers being able to bat, Matt Prior averages over 40! It's crazy, he shouldn't be doing that.

It's certainly made more uncertanty in the game, and more tactics involved etc.. I'm semi for it, I don't like the picking bowlers because they can bat (as suggested above with Starc) however that seems the norm now. :-\
I think if you are a good enough bowler you will be picked anyway, no matter your batting (see anderson, mcgrath etc) but if you are vying with other bowlers of the same ilk for a spot, the one with the better batting will more likely get the nod. It's sad for us (australia) because ordinarily you wouldn't want to have to rely on your bowlers to get you runs, but unfortunately that's the scenario pretty much every test recently. It's stiff on them because they can get unfairly criticised for not making runs when it's not their job.

Gotta love having Broady, gun batsman and gun bowler :D

except you cant have it both ways..... if you think we have our best bowlers in the squad the same cannot be said for the batsmen.... which was the concern long before the ashes yet the best batsmen are not being picked

Upset that Bird and Uzzie are out though... flowering Starc.

Meanwhile, Lukey Wright and Gary Ballance killed it for the English Lions vs Bangladesh A.
