Easy in hindsight: How does your round 1 team stack up? - mistakes, good points

post up your rd1 team and give a quick review of how they've gone (mistakes or otherwise)

Goddard, Heppell, Gibbs, Hartlett, Pittard, Heath (Stevenson, Goodes)
Ablett, Pendlebury, JSelwood, Fyfe, Moloney, Embley, O'Meara, Toumpas (KMitchell, Viney)
Kreuzer, Ryder (Blicavs, Daw)
Zorko, Karnezis, Bartel, Patton, JJ Kennedy, Macaffer, Neade, Cox

defs: happy that i started with the big 3, and Hartlett did reasonably well till he turned to spud level around rd6/7, others were just profit makers, glad i started with Goodes, looks like a keeper D7/8
mids: Toumpas and Embley :'( but happy with Moloney and Jaeger
rucks: actually a good combo, till they got injured/banned in the same week :( and Blicavs as a R3 was a good move :) (getting rid of him next week)
fwds: Zorko got punted for Rocky after week 1 (yes, i was that harsh) and Karnezis was just a spud (can't believe he did so well in the NAB), Patton looked decent till he got injured :( and JJK proved to be one of the bargains of the year :)

DEF: Goddard and Gibbs were automatic locks, Goddard has exceeded my expectations though. Should've started with Heppell, but Duffield has turned out to be a decent pick (87 average without sub affected 51) after his slow start. The 3 rookie strategy was very popular, and paid off until the Port rooks started spudding up. I've still got Goodes atm and he is looking great as floating DEF/MID cover.

MID: Swan, Ablett and Pendles were always locks. Jelwood has been alright I suppose and Moloney was awesome value at M5.

RUC: McEvoy was looking great early, but has dropped right off. Longer was just there until Luey returned and he was traded after round 1. I traded Blicavs to Gawn when he was on the bubble. Pretty bad trade as Gawn was gawn during the byes and I haven't got any of his good recent scores.

FWD: Nick Riewoldt was an amazing pick... unfortunately I traded him after round 1. :o Basically didn't really know what to do with my trades (was still getting my head around 44 trades) and didn't think he'd be a keeper, so got rid of him prematurely. I did bring him back in during the byes though. Robbo and Franklin were spud picks, both averaging less than 80. Patton was looking good until he did his ACL. Got rid of Macaffer after round 2. :(



In hindsight, I really should have traded Robbo to JJK after round 1, not NRoo. Not really sure what I was thinking - Robbo got concussed and was gonna leak major cash, and worst case scenario I could have got him back in if he showed premo status. Wow, imagine how many points that trade would have cost me alone. :(

Also should have started with Bartel/Martin over Buddy...

Four terrible pickups were Karnezis, Harper, Longer and Armstrong.

A bad pickup was Robinson

Obviously, I'd rather not have had JPK, but alas.

Didn't start with Heppell, Ablett, DMart, NRoo, JJK or Moloney

Started with Barlow... but traded him to Cloke in Round 6 ( :-[ :-[ wtf was wrong with me)

My season ended in round 1 when I had Dayne Beams as captain with Ryder (45) as vice captain.

R1 team: 2021

B: Gibbs, Goodes, Grimes, Heppell, Stevenson, Goddard, Heath, Frost (at the time I thought Heppell>Birchall was a major mistake but because of Juke's advice it saved my team a lot of points and trauma)

M: Ablett VC, Pendles, Swan C, Cotchin, Wines, Viney, Fyfe, O'Meara, Kommer, K. Mitchell (I though O'Meara was my worst rookie mid at the time  ;) and thought with Gaj, Pendles, Swan, Cotchin & Fyfe my team would soar)

R: Cox, Bmac, Blicavs, Currie (thought I'd made a mistake with Bmac, I was later proved wrong... and then right  :-\ but he is back on track now. I thought Blicavs would be good for nothing  ;) )

F: Rocky, Dusty, Karnezis, Neade, Zorko, Maccaffer, Rowe, Lee (just read it and you know the outcome... only Rocky, Dusty & Lee are still in my forward line today...)

Overall comparing that to my current team they are not in anyway comparable. I can proudly say the only premium I dropped from my starting team was Dayne Zorko and Fyfe but he is only a semi-premo and he was suspended (that was only in hindsight though, the real reason is I was greedy and wanted Watson after his flying start). Overall my best starting team. Required no trades until round 2 with Karn and the completion of r3 saw Zorko gone :)
