I was a bit iffy on that trade, and I dunno if I would have done it in that situation-  I did think the security of pendles scoring  dominated cotchin though :P

yeah the safety of pendles was what i was after, I was well aware that cotchin could have kept his form up and at 23 coming off a 120 second half the trade definately wasnt one sided. I had quite a few people tell me that I was crazy trading away cotchin.

I didnt expect this differential though, I assumed they would have scored within 5 points of each other.

Well there are only 14 teams not 16 or 18. But last year he had spuds like Lecras, Cloke, Malceski etc and now they are good.

Malceski last year was a 72 average player this year 89 +12
Douglas last year was a 72 avergae player this year 101 +29
Cloke last year was a 75 average player this year 95 +20
Walker last year was a 75 avergae player this year 82 +7
barlow last year was a 96 average player this year 110 +14
goldy last year was a 79 average player this year 89 + 10

from my starting 15 this week only Lids and Simpson have gone down on averages, the other 12 (minus lecras) have gone up on average 9.8 points.

its simple alot of guys who where average last year became premo. If guys like Eski, Douglas, Walker etc.. didnt break out than I wouldnt be looking anywhere near as strong.

malceski was always capable of this but admitably had to wonder if "this year" would ever happen....

walker and douglas were just smart moves

no complaints from me, trading is part of the game, some do it well others not so well, but it will be a long time before anyone rivals this team.......

I only have Pearce on the bench than it goes to omeara i think douglas can outscore omeara.

I just got back from a holiday, and checked the last few picks. A bit of a delayed reply, but oh well lol. :P

Douglas - a 25 year old who averaged 82 without subs and close to 90 back in 2010 is a massive steal at pick #79. He could even be a chance for DPP down the track too. Nice.

hahah dont think that surprise will come Holz, Douglas will struggle to ave 80+ imo. He's no longer a midfielder we have plenty of younger better players ahead of him in there and his role played as a HF last year wont see him have much value in Euro's unless he gets DPP in future yrs. A 26 yr old mid (when season starts) who has never ave over 88, is always going to be a sub candidate for us and has had two lenghty injuries keeping him out for 7 & 6 weeks in past two seasons, in comparision to some of the younger guys taken around #79  dont really see why this pick would be singled out.......

holz got the wooden spoon last year due to injuries + form drops, but his team was stacked with youth so he spent the trade period trading off things like pick 1 national, omeara etc. for players who'd under performed like cloke, barlow.

and cw- goldy, cloke and barlow weren't certainties... personally I didn't pick any of them in my DT :P There were doubts over goldy based on how many hit outs made up his point %, on cloke as a key forward in general, on barlows recovery from his leg.

IN hindsight, several of them (like the petrie  one and goddard one) shouldn't have passed, but hey, hindsight's a dog :P
ftr, the last trade is reasonable (on face value it doesn't look so), but considering brock mclean was unpicked in the rookie draft at the time and averaged over 100 unsubbed, makes it pretty reasonable. 

basically, everything (with the exception of sandi's injury) just went right for holz :P

he's team is pretty old though, especially his forward line which will be destroyed in 2 years tops  :P

I stand by the goddard one, it was before he was traded at stkilda he would be a 95 average player and he isnt that young. To be fair mummy was coming off an injury plagued 82 average season, going 91 the year before being a top 3 ruck in the comp.

The Barlow for pick 1 was the only trade I think should have gotten canceled.

however its knowhere near the worst trade ever.

that is is, im losing walker to defense. Harvey and Petrie dont have long left. Im also going to lose goddard to gibbs to the midfield and im going to be getting late picks for a few years. Boyd hasnt got long left and eski is 29 and injury prone. I have absolutely no youth coming in.

Hogan and Swallow are my only decent youth.
