Cash Maric in?

I've been going through the usual Monday morning trade ideas and wondering if it might be time to cut my loses with Maric?

Paid 600k at the start of the year, had a promising first few rounds, but since then has really struggled with form and his chronic groin injury. With Tom Nicholls in such good form, would it be worth ditching Maric for McBean and playing Nicholls as R2 with Goldstein as R1?

With the cash it will allow me to trade Thurlow > Malceski/Heppell, then move Hartlett to the bench. HH becomes my mid/back coverage (DPP with Colquhoun - also have Clisby and Viney) with a ton of cash in the bank to upgrade Viney or Tom Mitchell before finals.

If I don't do this I will most likely do a Thurlow > Oxley downgrade (DPP with Staker) and upgrade Mitchell in the next few weeks. Which leaves me with Hartlett on the field, but a fairly handy R2 combo where I can decide who has a better match up between Maric and Nicholls.

Potentially risky strategy, but Nicholls' draw for the rest of the year is amazing (except for a game against the Eagles) and hopefully being a little older means he won't burn out like other rookies do. Plus I can ditch Maric and stop relying on Hartlett.

Thanks

Do it, cant trust his groin unfortunately, nicholls is good enough as R2

I believe Nicholls is a solid R2 for the year mate ! Maric just has to many injury concerns - Uses his cash elsewhere.

I'm in the same position... back Maric in over Nicholls on the weekend and well that lost me near 40-50 points...!!

I'm ditching Maric, creating a DPP link for either Cox/Roughy as backup if Nicholls goes down..!!

My only concern is with Dixon coming back this week probably, will this interrupt Nicholls scoring..! Then he may still score better than Maric anyway...!!

Ditch Maric, Bring in another Prem elsewhere!!

roo boys!

Who knows when Dixon is going to come back really...don't think it will affect Nicholls in any way as he'll still clearly be the number 1 ruckman, they'll want to play Dixon forward for at least 75% of the game you'd imagine.

Bit more worried about it affecting my man Gorringe though, will be interesting to see how they restructure with Thompson possibly out for a fair stint. Day down back maybe, Dixon and Gorringe tall forward targets giving Nicholls a chop out when he needs it?

Go with Roughy mate ! Super hot form and hasn't scored under 90 since Rd 5. :) Cox is nearly done fantasy wise :-\

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Definitely will be interesting to see how Dixon/Gorringe fit in there when they are fit to play, can't see it affecting Nicholls too much though.

The only kicker for me is I am (very) low on trades. Although having Hartlett as a backup is very handy, and Staker can cover my FWD/RUCK with the McBean/Cox DPP.

Although if I don't win my league games this week it's season over for me. Don't really want to rely on Hartlett.

If you need to trade for those extra 25pts to win. Do it mate ! There is no point saving trades if your not in it to win it.

But have a close look at your opponent to see if it is worth it :)

You're definitely right there Vinny. At least if Malceski has a bad game it still means 85-90 points, rather than a Hartlett 40-50 point performance.

My opponents this week are all tough. I'm sitting 9th in every league I'm trying to win (hence getting rid of some Richmond players) but a W in each of those would mean I'm a sneaky chance for 8th spot

Vinny,

Cox & Roughy are in my Forward line...  so they will be cover for Nicholls if need..

Trade this week will be...

Maric & Crouch -> Out
Move McBean to Ruck, SJ to Fwd
Barlow & Atkins -> In

Bench Buddy!!! and 1 trade left... with $120k leftover... so either upgrade birchall(Def), T.Mitchell (Mid), Nicholls(Ruc)  around finals time...

Sitting 9th with Richmond players...!!! How cliche! ;)

JFitty -

Fair enough mate ! Pull the trigger and I hope you get up ;)

Typhnn-

Oh okay - Those trades look good but I would be worried about having only 1 trade. It's still early and injuries could come up anytime as shown by Birchall, Watson etc.

Same, I've had him since round 1  >:(
I'm gonna hold on to him until round 19, if I don't see any improvement then he's gone before league finals

jfitty: I like the trades you can make if you drop Maric. Nicholls should still be number 1 ruck with Dixon as back up when he' back.
Not sure on Gorringe's role though and whether GC will play all these talls.
