Hi all,

Was thinking of keeping Goodes as D6 and upgrading Staker next week for a final premo, he has been super consistent for the Dogs. Staker's last couple of weeks has made me rethink my decision. Who should I keep and why?

Goddard, Heppell, Gibbs, Hibbert, Goodes, Staker (Clisby, Docherty).

Any comments appreciated, cheers.

Mids
GAJ, Pendles, Swan, JPK, Jelwood, Cotchin, Fyfe, Stevie J (T Mitchell, Crouch)

Rucks
Goldstein, Nicholls (Rowe, Hannath)

Forwards
Bartel, Dusty, Rockliff, Buddy, Nic Nat, JJK (B Kennedy, Taberner)

7 trades and $284,400 in the bank.

Traded in Stevie J this week for Watson. Plan is to swing Stevie J into forwards for B Kennedy then upgrade Kennedy to another premo mid). Was then going to switch Nic Nat to rucks for Rowe to play him over Nicholls, but considering how well Nicholls is going may play him as R2...

Perthwildcat

Staker for Grimes is almost irresistable.

The injury worry is there but with 7 trades why not?

Hmmm, hadn't thought of Grimes but it is tempting as it would almost be a straight swap with Staker!

Cheers HG,

My opinion is this; with the number of trades you have you are still in a position where maximising profits from rookies is your aim.

At this point you should be looking to hold onto most of your rookies, and maybe look at getting rid of some dead wood.

The two options I would look at...

Upgrade Docherty to a premium defender in one trade, leaving you with 6. with the cash available you would be able to afford anyone up to $461,600... This pretty much leaves you with to choose from Hanley/Hibberd/Ibbotson, the last two dependent on how they score today, and their associated price change... but they are on the cusp of your budget. This leaves one of Goodes/Staker on the pine covering for the inevtiable defender problems, and Clisby conbtinuing to make $$

Option two, and my prferred as it serves more than one purpose, but costs two trades leaving you 5.

Get rid of Bennedy for Oxley. Bennedy isn't playing and is likely to loose cash next time he plays if in fact he does (BE is 93). Yes Oxley isn't playing but it liberates what little cash Bennedy has made while the rest of your rookies accumulate more profit, and gives you a DPP link for Staker. Then once again upgrade Docherty, but you will have enough to afford anyone you desire. This option leaves you with a bit of extra cover FWD and DEF, improves your scoring potential, and gets rid of a two non scoring players for one who scores premium points, and one who will at least provide you with a function.

In your case i think holding both Goodes and Staker is the ideal situation. I cashed in Goodes a few weeks back, but it just suited my team at the time and for the remainder of the year. Staker nI've held and he has filled in nicely at D6 the last couple of weeks while I have Waters and Birchall on the bench... this was only possible via the Oxley DPP.

Thanks heaps for the advice Vicious.

I hadn't even thought of holding both Goodes and Staker, but you make a very good point. It would be beneficial to have decent bench coverage during finals and I think option 2 provides that flexibility. I'm actually tempted to just keep Stevie J in the mids and have DPP coverage, seeing that he is averaging better than a lot of supposedly premium mids!

I did look st Steveie J in your mids, but figured that was a discussion for a new thread a few weeks down the track. :)

He should be forward but is fine where he is for now. When the times comes, and you have the cash, Taberner out, Stevie J down and get a Barlow type into that midfield.

It gives you even more options in that you can have JJKRockliff/Buddy :o as F7....or......play all your premium forwards on field by moving Nic Nat/Cox via Rowe into the ruck and having Nichols as back-up in the Ruck (And you still have the Staker DPP to swing forward in case of crises in your forward line)... then again Nichols may be a very nice R2 through to seasons end at the rate he's going. Thats something to look at in a few weeks time, but as you make your decisions this week, you might as well have an eye to what the next step would be in any case...

That said... 'stuff' will happen between now and then that will change everything....  ;)
