Another game I'm particularly interested in, is this one. New Delhi, despite their 0-2 start to the season, have still in a way lived up to their promise of a much improved team in two noticeable regards, 1) they have scored much more than they have this time last year (260 to 173) and 2) they have a host of quality players out... and still have a pool of players to choose from. Against Toronto, presents a golden opportunity to open their ledger against a team that somewhat resembles a slightly better 2015 New Dehli outfit. If you look at the Wolves team, you'll realise they'll have a good day soon; a nailed captain choice and a star performance or two might even see them beat New Delhi this week given the unavailable tigers, but they gotta believe they're a chance. But, I'm gonna do what I haven't done in a long, long time and that is tipping New Delhi to get it done.

New Delhi are coming off their first win of 2016 (their second win in since Round 13 of 2014!!!!) and would be quietly chuffed with their obvious improvement this year; despite just the one win to show for it. This week, they come up against a team that has basically lost as many times as New Delhi have won in the last 2 years in Dublin; whom themselves are coming off a mammoth 166. The Destroyers responded after their Round 2 loss to Beijing and would be welcoming the return to the 160 barrier; made possible by Joel Selwood hitting back and reigning Jim Stynes medallist Todd Goldstein trying his best against Max Gawn. But for New Delhi... could there be a better fairytale? To take on the gladiators themselves and come out victorious? Perhaps when Dublin strike, they will be met with Steel (Sidebottom)? It's a nice thought. But I'll tip the Destroyers.

New Delhi have been the picture of consistency so far this year with scores of 130, 130, 138 and 132 but has only netted just the one win so far against Toronto. However their 3 losses have come against teams ranked in top 5 offensively, so really the Tigers season is still one full of optimism and hope of landing many more wins! In the Samurai, the Tigers face an opponent where they if they win they'll be praised, but if they lose, they'll be criticised. The Samurai have annoyed its supporters immensely; teasing them of a magnificent Round 1 performance before succumbing to three straight disappointing losses. I tell ya what though, they'll be livid if they throw out a stinker here against a beatable New Delhi. Who will win? I like the consistent Tigers here at home!

Team of the Week

QuoteA mix of old and new this week, that's something cool! Are we seeing a changing of the guard here at TOTW? That forward line in particular throws out a few surprises and fresh faces. Also worth noting the leaders down back and up forward, guns! New Delhi's Sidebottom leading the way this week with Berlin's beast of a big man in Max Gawn his 2IC. Hard luck story of the week goes out to Beijing where the old fella Ted Richards wasted his efforts for Shanghai.

Oh boy. If you take out the Reindeers Round 3 win against Beijing, the Reindeers have gotten worse every week and I think its 114 against the previously winless Buenos Aires last week is (for the season) rock bottom. Who would have thought such a host of experienced guns would be performing (averaging) so badly?: N Jones (77), Hodge (75), Westhoff (69), Wingard (69) and even Marley Williams (55) have been weirdly and drastically below their normal standards, and boy has it shown. And then you look at New Delhi... I still can't get over last week! The Tigers might have posted their biggest ever score last week (159) and it also might be the first time New Delhi coaches have been the coach(es) of the week as well! The resurrection is gaining pace and with a score like that, the Tigers have announced that they are no longer the easy-beats of the competition, and for perhaps the first time in a long time, they've regained some hard earned respect. On form, New Delhi are the clear choice here, but I just have this feeling the Reindeers will respond this week and take home a much needed win.

Reindeer Capitalise on Tired Tigers

QuotePNL would be happy with the win... but scoring still remains a concern. The Tigers had their first real shocker for the year and that's understandable given their much increased output this year compared to last year. A little less clear than previous weeks, but this game is my MATCH OF THE ROUND! Why? Coz it's a big danger game for the Saints, and a really good opportunity for the Tigers to do some damage to the eight. I actually looked at the Christchurch list recently and there is something that really stood out to me; nothing. Although easily the team with best competitive depth in the entire competition (and as such that affords a game winning consistency), they have only ONE player that averages over 100, five players averaging over 90 and four over 80. That's not a premiership winning team, and it appears especially so when it loses 129-127 against a quality opponent having an off day in Pacific. The Tigers are also coming off arguably its most disappointing week of the season; scoring just a paltry 116 that New Delhi of yester-year would have called a good week. But that's to be expected from a developing team that's come as far back as it has, and it shouldn't detract the amazing potential it showed in only the week before where it celebrated being the team of the week! Who will win? I know I've been harsh on Christchurch here, but that's only because I expect much more from a top 4 contending team so I continue to urge it to break the 150 barrier. Although New Delhi has shown more firepower, I just think the Saints will respond.

Saints Heaven; Tiger Frustration

This was a really good performance from the Saints. They only had three players score less than 70 and the rest all put in worthy contributions. The Tigers would be frustrated that they scored the 8th highest score of the round and lost, but Worlds is an unforgiving mistress. Jack Martin would be on notice with that ugly 25 too.

The Brewers aren't having the season they had hoped for, after trading hard in the offseason for a shot at premiership glory, yet find themselves 4-3 after 7 rounds and clinging on to 8th. Without superstar Nat Fyfe, the Brewers continue to challenge, but for how long one has to wonder. For their opponents in New Delhi, a trading frenzy finished up with a pretty amazing list overhaul and the results of that hard work have been clear to see at points this season even getting the highest score for the round three weeks ago! Their coaching partnership would be pleased that they're sitting 10th of points for but at 2-5, would like some concrete results. Berlin currently lead the head-to-head 4-0 but we'll back in the Tigers to pick up their first win against The Brewers.

There's a real sense of achievement over at New Delhi, and it's easy to see why. The once resident cellar dwellers and guaranteed win for opposition clubs is know a team that demands respect from whomever they face. At the moment, the Tigers scoring justifies a place in the finals (8th in the points ladder) and with its first win over a genuine top 8 aspiring team last week, even more so. They're match up this week against Seoul is just really interesting IMO, as I think they are genuine peers and also are fighting for the Asia crown. Seoul have proven this year that they can match it with the best with wins over Christchurch & Mexico City and because of these scalps, I would say they are marginally ahead of NDT in terms of development. This match is a "sizing each other up" kind of match, and I one I will monitor with interest. I will tip Seoul here only because NDT are yet to score 140+ in consecutive weeks.

Seoul never had a chance when no centurions turned up. But NDT! Wow! That's their 3rd 150+ score this season! I wouldn't want to be losing if I were in the eight, coz NDT are making a charge!

Team of the Week

Quote from: Nige on May 23, 2016, 04:28:39 PMA pretty decent mix in this week's team with both familiar and fresh faces. The regulars need no introduction, but the likes of Matt Dea and Seb Ross have put their hand up. The big news was a monster score from Todd Goldstein which was amazingly topped by Heath Shaw who broke the magical 200 point barrier. JROO8 gets another coach of the week nod for inspiring Heater to a ridiculous effort.

D: Heath Shaw [c] (Mexico City), Sam Docherty (Moscow), Matt Dea (Cape Town), Dane Rampe (London)
M: Seb Ross (New Delhi), Trent Cotchin (Mexico City), Jack Steven (Berlin), Lachie Neale (Beijing)
R: Todd Goldstein [vc] (Dublin)
F: Josh J Kennedy (New York), Tom T Lynch (London), Dustin Martin (Dublin), Jesse Hogan (Moscow)
I: Kurt Tippett (New York), Jack Ziebell (Toronto)

Coach: JROO8 (Mexico City)
