New Delhi's Rise from the Ashes

We joke quite a bit about the state of the original NDT list. But looking back now it's interesting to see how much really has changed and the process that we went through to overhaul the list, changing it from a group of aging stars and boys with limited to potential to a team that will grow further and seriously challenge in the coming years.

I'm not going to lie, it's been a bucketload of work but it's definitely been worth it!

The Beginning

We were always well aware of the mountain that we had to climb, and wasn't it a flowering big ass mountain! :P

Lets have a look at what we took over

1   Jacobs   Ben
2   Cassisi   Domenic
3   Ibbotson   Garrick
4   Black   Simon
5   Blair   Jarryd
6   Cheney   Kyle
7   Duigan   Nicholas
8   Horlin-Smith   George
9   Dawson   Zac
10   Edwards   Shaun
11   Montagna   Leigh
12   Wellingham   Sharrod
13   Bastinac   Ryan
14   Horsley   Kyal
15   Melksham   Jake

16   Palmer   Rhys
17   Mullett   Aaron
18   Milera   Terry
19   Dunell   Sam
20   Rutten   Ben
21   White   Matthew
22   Buckley   Dylan
23   Bailey   Max
24   Hille   David
25   Renouf   Brent
26   Mattner   Martin
27   Giansiracusa   Daniel
28   Podsiadly   James
29   Bartlett   Callum
30   Roberts-Thomson   Lewis

31   Murdoch   Jordan
32   Michie   Viv
33   Koschitzke   Justin
34   Callinan   Ian
35   Dell'Olio   Cory
36   Langford   Will
37   Stringer   Jake
38   Vlastuin   Nick
39   Reid   Sam J
40   Ellis-Yolmen   Cameron
41   Ugle   Gerald
R   McCarthy   Lincoln
R   Kelly   Jordan
R   Helbig   Bradley
R   Ferguson   Jackson

The big JPod was always a fan (and coach) favourite down here at NDT, and it was a shame that the Sub Rule destroyed Giansiracusa's final year in the WXV competition.

And who could forget our gun #1 defender, Mr Zac Dawson ;)

Looking back into original NDT threads, I believe the Best XV was this

DEF: Jacobs, Ibbotson, Cheney, Duigan
MID: Montagna, Cassisi, Black, Bastinac
UTIL: Horsley, Wellingham
RUC: Max Bailey
FWD: Blair [M], Milera, Giansiracusa, Podsiadly

Even those Dubliner's use to shake with fear when coming up against us >:D

The Controversial "Mitch Duncan Trade"

haha I say controversial because we copped a fair bit when this original trade was made but I'd like to follow the new players from that trade, and future trades to see how it turned out for us...

NDT Give: Mitch Duncan and Pick 24
New York Give: Pick 10, Tom Nicholls and Ben Griffiths

The 2014 Trade Period - Related Trades

NDT Give: Mitch Duncan and Pick 24
New York Give: Pick 10, Tom Nicholls and Ben Griffiths

NDT Give: Nat 10 + Nat 24
SaoPaulo Give: Chris Masten + Liam Sumner + Blaine Johnson + Nat 38

NDT Give: N29
London Give: Dan Gorringe + N47

Bringing them all together gives us
NDT Give:  Duncan N24 N10 N24 N29
NDT Get: N10 Nicholls Griffiths Masten Sumner BJohnson N38 Gorringe N47

Also that period, Brooksby was taken with a late rookie pick, and this year Johnson has been delisted.

The 2015 Trade Period - Related Trades

NDT Give: Nicholls Gorringe Brooksby N22
NDT Get: Wallis MCrouch N59

NDT Give: Masten PSD1 N47
NDT Get: BHill Acres Krakouer Barrett

NDT Give: Hill
NDT Get: Broomhead PDavis

NDT Give: N1 Broomhead Acres Nankervis
NDT Get: SMartin JCameron N24

Adding them in
NDT Give:  N1 Duncan N24 N24 N29 Nicholls Gorringe Brooksby N22 Masten PSD1 N47 Hill Nankervis Broomhead Acres
NDT Get: Nicholls Griffiths Masten Sumner N38 Gorringe N47 Wallis MCrouch N59 BHill Acres Krakouer Barrett Broomhead PDavis N24 SMartin JCameron

Or cleaned up a bit
NDT Give:  Duncan Nankervis Brooksby N1 N22 N24 N29 PSD1
NDT Get: SMartin Wallis MCrouch JCameron Krakouer PDavis Griffiths Sumner Barrett N38 N59

And if we just cancel out a few of the at the end to tidy it up a bit
N29 = N38 + N59
PSD1 = Kraks

NDT Give:  Duncan  Nankervis  Brooksby  N1  N22  N24
NDT Get:    SMartin  Wallis  MCrouch  JCameron  PDavis  Griffiths  Sumner  Barrett

Now obviously we've given up more than just Mitch Duncan, but this was the trade kickstarted the rebuild (or just build lol) and gave us a decent core of soild players to build a competitive side around

Hopefully "The Gaff" trade produces similar in the future :P

The End Product

DEF: Daniel Rich, Jeremy Howe, Sharrod Wellingham, Adam Oxley
(Nathan Krakouer, Tom Bugg, Phil Davis, Aaron Mullett, Jarman Impey, Simon White)

MID: Steele Sidebottom, Kieren Jack, Stephen Coniglio, Mitch Wallis
UTIL: Tom Scully, Matt Crouch

(Jake Lloyd, Seb Ross, Nick Robertson, Tom Curren, Jake Barrett, Liam Sumner)

RUCK: Stefan Martin (C)
(Zac Clarke, Trent West, Jack Hannath)

FWD: Jack Darling, Travis Cloke, Jack Martin, Jeremy Cameron
(Riley Knight, Paddy McCartin, Ben Griffiths, Brandon Jack, Brant Colledge, Ed Langdon)

Not going to lie, it's exciting to know that this team will seriously make a big play next year. And we finally have depth!!

With the talent of some of these boys, the only way is up :)

Toga

Great job Rico, as you know I'm a big fan of your work over the last couple of seasons!

Similar path to Beijing (would be interesting to see how we've progressed). Hopefully you guys get the same results (probably better!) than we saw this year with a rise up the ladder.

Here's to a good rivalry between two up-and-coming teams that started from the bottom! 8)

The 2015 Draft

The International Draft

Pick #18 - Darcy Tucker

One word.... Gun. Darcy will be a legitimate SC star. He's a great user of the footy on either side of his body and just finds the pill. Originally touted as a top 5 draft prospect, injuries meant he slipped. With pace and elite endurance Darcy loves to break lines and when you pair that with his composure to hit targets, you have a weapon! He finds plenty of the footy too. At TAC Cup level he averaged 23 possies a game, and at the National Carnival this year he posted a 19possie/game average. Darcy also showed he can handle it against the big boys, racking up 19 possies in his debut VFL game this year. Freo were lucky he slipped to them and he'll slot in nicely at half back. NDT were lucky to land him at #18, and we're stoked to see what he can do next year. Welcome Darcy!

Pick #14 - Luke Partington

One word.... Superstar. Luke is a ball magnet who averaged 102SC at the Nationals this year. He is quick and can play both inside and outside. This versatility will allow him to play various roles in the WCE NDT midfield and race quickly up the queue. At the combine Luke impressed with this speed recording a 2.96sec 20m sprint, which combined with his endurance (14.1 beep) means he should thrive in the West Coast NDT midfield and their playing style. Keep an eye on this kid, he can play!

Pick #45 - Brayden Sier

A few words.... A cross between a Gun and a Superstar. How the hell did this kid slip to us at #45!? Must of been Brayden's lack of games at TAC level, instead playing school footy. But Brayden is all power. He is literally already a beast. And recruiters have labelled him as a player with plenty of upside. Watch out for this guy, trust me.

QuoteBRUTALLY honest Brisbane vice-captain Daniel Rich freely admits his “disappointing’’ 2015 season was well below par.

But a permanent shift back to the midfield and a new off-season fitness regimen has the 25-year-old with the booming left boot poised to recapture his best football.

NDT Draftee Update

From the AFL Article

Darcy Tucker: Looks to have transitioned seamlessly into the life of professional football. Lived with Garrick Ibbotson when he first arrived and has been a regular participant in main sessions

Luke Partington: Looks an impressive player and has settled into pre-season training well. Has not looked out of place with his skills in the Eagles' ball movement drills.

Brayden Sier: Having played predominantly at school and local level last year, the Pies' shock first pick has a considerable way to go to reach AFL-standard fitness levels. However, the big-bodied midfielder/forward has surprised by completing almost every session and handling the workload well. Has also impressed with his decision-making, kicking and hunger for knowledge.

Nick O'Kearney: Adapted the quickest of the Saints' recruits and has needed to be held back at times because of his desire to do everything. Working with the midfielders, he has impressed with his ability to find the ball and is speaking up in meetings.

Tom Wallis: The son of two-time premiership Bomber Dean, Wallis has had a few setbacks with a niggling knee issue. Back training with the midfield group and has shown he can provide grunt around the ball. Will take some time

With Howe unlikely for RD1 we needed this

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2016-02-26/krakouer-upgraded

QuoteNATHAN KRAKOUER will be eligible to play senior football from Round 1 â€" if declared fit â€" as Port Adelaide’s ‘nominated rookie’.

The application to upgrade the 27-year-old to the Power’s senior list was lodged with the AFL on Friday morning.

Port Adelaide’s list composition allows the upgrade of one rookie prior to the start of the season â€" Krakouer has been given the nod on the back of a strong summer.
