My team currently:
Def: Goddard, Shaw, Gibbs, Birchall, Goodes, Vlaustin (Brown, Thurlow)
Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, Dangerfield, Cotchin, JP Kennedy, Watson, Mitchell (K Martin, Hrovat)
Ruc: Goldstein, Maric (Nicholls, Rowe)
Fwd: Naitinui, Cox, Johnson, D. Martin, Rockliff, Franklin (Staker, B Kennedy)
Cash Left: 76,500
Trades left: 7

I estimate that I will need 3-4 trades to complete my team depending on a few factors.  My thoughts going forward are:
This week going:
Vlaustin to Heppell - I was hoping to wait a few more weeks for this trade, but with Vlaustin's B/E I don't think I can wait.  Heppell seems to be the safest choice; I considered Hanley but with two scores under 50 in 3 weeks I would want to wait a bit longer on him.

Next week:
Thurlow to Clisby/Oxley - this trade would give me a minimum of $115k to put towards my last midfield upgrade as I don't expect Oxley to play this week given he hasn't played a full game in a month (2 weeks as sub followed by a bye at both AFL & VFL level). Also given my low number of trades, decent bench cover is a must, which is why I'm leaning towards Oxley who can dpp with Staker.

Sometime in the future:
Trade Mitchell/Martin to Premo Mid or Forward.  Who this is depends on how much Martin/Mitchell makes and how much cash I need.  At the moment Murphy is looking an option once he comes back from injury but given i can swing Johnson or Martin into M8 I'll take the best option Mid or Forward I can afford.  This trade will almost certainly not happen before round 18 as both Martin and Mitchell have a bit of cash to make.

Possible luxury trades if needed:
Goodes to Hanley - At the moment it is looking like Hanley could drop below Goodes in price.  Whether I considered this trade would depend on a couple of factors.  The first is Hanley's form and the cost of the trade.  In the last three matches he has had 2 scores below 50, he'd need to show that they were circumstantial (Caffed against the pies and heavy knock against the Cats) as opposes to an ongoing form slump.  Also I couldn't afford to outlay more than a couple thousand dollars for this trade so the two prices would need to get close.  The second factor will be if I need extra cash for my last Premo mid.

Rowe to McBean - If I do need extra cash this is an option as it will get me about $120k in cash and will maintain my dpp link to Cox and NicNat.

At most only one of these luxury trades will happen, though it is possible neither will depending on circumstances.

Like it Maggie - Sound Team.  As I see it one def premium and one mid premium required to complete team. Still believe Goodes is good enough to occupy the D6 role but as you say can upgrade later if trades allow.

Wait for Teams this week though to see who is named before upgrading in defence with injuries possibly sidelining Birchall, Goodes, Vlastuin and Thurlow not named last week so hand may be forced early.

Okay so obviously I'm going to have to change my strategy.  I'm thinking of taking a risk, given most back options seem to be risky anyway.

I'm thinking this week going:
Birchall to Ibbotson

And sometime in the next couple of weeks going:
Thurlow to Oxley for the dpp to Staker

This would give me a backline of:

Goddard, Gibbs, Shaw, Ibbotson, Goodes Vlaustin (Brown, Oxley)

This would leave me with 5 trades left and about $120k and the option to downgrade Rowe toMcBean if necessary to upgrade Mitch/Kmart to just aboutany Premo midfielder I haven't already got (I'm hoping Griffin but we will have to wait and see).

Unfortunately this would mean keeping Vlaustin for now and maybe for the rest of the year, depending on how things play out.  For the right circumstances I may go him to Hanley, but my priority would be finishing the midfield, so the price would have to be right.

Is this idea too risky?

So obviously the risk of keeping Vlaustin didn't pay off and now with Watson injured, I've been forced to do a couple of trades this week.  So I've decided to go:
Vlaustin to Hanley
Watson to Jack

This leaves my team looking:
Def: Goddard, Shaw, Gibbs, Ibbotson, Hanley, Goodes (Brown, Clisby)
Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, Dangerfield, Cotchin, JP Kennedy, Jack, Mitchell (Hrovat, Martin)
Ruc: Goldstein, Maric (Nicholls, Rowe)
Fwd: Naitinui, Cox, Johnson, Martin, Rockliff, Franklin (Staker, B Kennedy)
Cash left:  $39,300.  Trades left: 3

I've not really got any plans for M8.  As long as Mitchell holds his form, I'll keep him there, if his form drops, I'll trade him out for a fallen premium.
