Geelong have to appeal this......what a pathetically inconsistent decision

Maggie May

Look at the bright side.  SJ was bound to be rested at some stage before the finals.  At least he's being nice and getting it out of the way early  ;D

i'm always surprised at any team with mid/fwd dpp links this year. i just cant get my head around them.

How so?

because there are no viable rookie dpp options so any time you have a link player in your mids (SJ/dustin/rocky for example) it's a spot that could be taken over by better scoring mid than the fwd spot that's available because they're not there. imo it's sacrificing points for the "what if" factor of something like what's happened to SJ this week.

Fair enough. I didn't actually get SJ in the mids for a DPP link, I got him as he was the only trade option to cover the late out of Mundy. However, I wouldn't be against picking SJ as a mid. SC aside he is a genuine mid this year.

i agree, but it's nothing to do with SJ, it's the comparison between the players you're left with depending which position you select him in, and invariably the mid wins.

Fox footy twitter reckon geelong and SJ may appeal 2 weeks

Have virtually nothing to lose - as 2 weeks will stand regardless.  Only downside is the increase in carry over points for finals.  So probably worth a through of the dice as personally do not see much difference to this bump than the Hodge one and Hodge was cleared.

Both Hodge incidents IMO

i actually think the lindsey thomas defense is a better option. hodge got off because it was deemed to not be a bump. he evaded his teammate and then braced for inevitable contact once he saw he couldnt avoid henderson.

SJ clearly chose to bump, and did bump. i think they should appeal on the grounds that he hit his shoulder and that while yes his shoulder slipped up and hit hanley's head, it wasn't a forseeable outcome that naturally flowed on from the bump to his shoulder.

Didn't Kelly try the same defense? If they appeal I still see him getting suspended. If you go the bump and make head high contact you are in trouble. It sucks, but they are the rules in place

Hate to break it to everyone but there is no way he is going to get off. If you choose to bump you are held accountable for the outcome of that bump. His outcome was his shoulder hitting Hanley in the head which was deemed as medium contact as he was forced from the ground but was not concussed and was able to take further part in the game.
He made a decision to bump rather than tackle when he could have so he will cop his whack unfortunately

fever

quinny i agree with you, i cannot see him getting off, but can you tell me the distinction between what you just described there and the thomas/reid incident? i cant find any. maybe the MRP have just put their hands up and said "we got that one wrong".

edit: the only distinction i can garner is that reid couldnt play on.

That underlined bit is the way I saw it. Hodge bumped Henderson but only after bracing for the contact.

Looking at SJ, he lined Hanley up and duly cleaned him up. Great bump - just a bit high - which is the risk they face now. Pity.

From what I understand Fever, if its a head clash it is purely accidental and you are fine. Weather thats fair or unfair is another story but thats the ruling as far as I know

Here's my wish now that Stevie J is contesting his 2 weeks.

1. Gets downgraded to one week...BUT

2. That one week is not this week when I need him in tough match ups...BUT

3. Instead is the week after so he doesn't play against Hawthorn and when I have easier league match ups.

Chances of that happening?
