i know he cant win it but Kommer is playing his role brilliantly reminds of Dangerfield the way he attacks the ball

Nowhere near the standard to O'Meara and others and also Kommer gets 10 touches to Danger's 30 a game so there is no comparison since Kommer is the same age hahaha

Kommer has a different role he's there to apply pressure etc i said he reminds me of Dangerfield the way he attacks the ball not that he was as good as him honestly Lez read properly before you post

Nothing against O'Meara or Whitfield but, neither team deserve a rising star, imo they are both flowering cheats! (Ok maybe I'll make my own thread soon)

Suns what? AFL allowed a team of kids to recruit two more 17yr olds? Cheats

Giants no better! Take those early picks you never needed when, what you needed was older players ::)

Still, the AFL allowed it so ..... What should we be thinking? ???

I love it when a crows supporter talks about cheating teams...

firstly, the rising star is a personal award, and not a team award.
secondly, since the AFL started (including the introduction of interstate teams, so 1987) the following players under 18 have debuted
ron james- 16, 1987
andrew embly- 17, 1999
luke hodge- 17, 2002
gary ablett junior- 17, 2002
daniel kerr- 17, 2001
brent stanton- 17, 2004
dustin fletcher- 17, 1993
brendon goddard- 17, 2003
matt maguire- 17, 2002
(cbf now, the following players were all 17 on debut)
andrew walker, brett deledio, brad ebert, brent guerra

note, that's on debut, not even when they were drafted

3rdly, for arguments sake, port adelaide has had a fair few high draft picks in recent years... which they used to select young talent, in a hope to be competitive enough to win a flag sometime in the next decade. I'm sure they could have traded away picks that they used to take players like butcher, wines, wingard etc. for older, established players and tried to crack into the 8  with a more established team, but given themselves little chance of success... but they didn't. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT flowerING HIGH PICKS ARE ALLOCATED FOR.

if the AFL hadn't wanted the suns/ giants to use their high picks, they would have made it mandatory that they were traded for players.

but they didn't.

basically, stfu. The giants and the suns have followed the AFL rules to create the best teams they could with what they were legally allowed to do within the rules.

unlike, once again, the crows.

Haha, love it Zip.

How old was Liam Shiels and Grant Birchall when they debuted? I reckon they would have been close to 17.

Ziplock

I dunno about birch, but shiels, scott selwood, waters, gibbs, ryder, pears, j schulz, ziebell amongst others were under 18 when they were drafted :P

shiels would have been 17 at the start of round 1, but didnt debut until round 10

JBs-Hawks

Shiels was definitely 17. Whats the point anyway? Rules have changed.

Ziplock

shiels was 18 and 30 days when he debuted in round 10

well, point was that tbag was making a big deal over the AFL letting teams recruit 17 year olds... when it's been done before in pretty recent history.

JBs-Hawks

tbags point was the concessions were made for GC/GWS to trade in experienced players and instead they went for youth.

Toga

I think (from past experience :P) tbag's gripe is that GC & GWS are hoarding young blokes and draft picks rather than trading them for experienced players... ;)

Not one mention of Daniher.

those concessions were to allow them to build the best team possible. GWS did make plays with those picks for big name stars, sheedy actually named a couple in one article (cant remember which one, it was on the afl website I feel around march-ish) that they  seriously went after with the mini draft + high draft picks, but nobody was willing to play ball with them.

So, instead of trading away high draft picks for average but more experienced players, they used them to build the best team possible with young super stars

which in their position, I think pretty much every team would have done.

tbag should be happy. Otherwise the crows wouldn't have gotten a single player this year, let alone crouch.

Yeah but they will start to trade those young blokes soon which isnt good for GC because they have put in the hard yards without much reward.

Cant see Matera staying at GC, Caddy has already left.

As players start to get some currency they will definately look for a team that has culture & history. They are nobodies on the goldy but down in Melbourne they will get much more recognition.

They will probably perform better also because the club they would go to would more than likely have many more established player.

TBag...you should be rubbing your hands together at the prospect of picking up these players that have done their apprenticeship...the truth is though...I think Id rather live on the Goldy than Adelaide...actually I know...I could only handle 6 months in the town...a major disadvantage at trying to recruit anyone

that's because he won't win the rising star :P

Ziplock

we'll see about that... caddy was always talked up to leave, I haven't really heard that much about matera.

Some people don't necessarily want everyone to know who they are, and being constantly hounded by everyone would be such a pain in the ass. The fishbowl life is why tippett left adelaide, and I think a reasonable amount of players would think the same.

Why do any players stick with the clubs they get drafted to? If they can squeeze everyone in to reasonable salaries, they'll stay. In the end it comes down to the money rather than the recognition... I'd personally prefer to live on the GC than melbourne if I was a footy player (I'm not a fan of the cold though :P )

Maybe not in 2013. :))

Yeah I know, just kidding around.

kilbluff1985

1. See it how you want, I choose not to ignore the blatant attempt by two clubs to not make certain they have the best possible team to put out in 2012/3/4  ???  cheats!

2. Also, how did the crows cheat? They didn't get a second round pick for Tippet so?

3. I will always defend the South Aussies ;)
